Yesterday’s devotional tried to explain what evil pits stand for and why evil pits are set before human beings. In addition to what was said yesterday, evil pits are like spiritual prison cells. They hold anyone dropped into them out of every useful activities and life benefits. As seen in the case of Joseph, the brothers cast him into the pit to kill his dreams. And as read in the lead text above about Prophet Jeremiah, his fellow prophets became jealous of his excellent and accurate prophesy from God. So they planned to him killed. The Bible says: ‘Then the officials went to the King and said, “This man must be put to death…” (Jer. 38: 4 Good News Bible). They dropped Jeremiah into slimy mire and left him sinking down (Jer. 38: 6). This is another type of pit to kill someone.

Christians are to know from the stories of Joseph and Jeremiah that either relations or colleagues are potential enemies who dig pits for them. They usually put you in an evil pit so that all your dreams in life are locked out. However, as seen from yesterday’s devotional, we are assured that anyone can come out of any evil pit. We can only be in the evil pit if we chose to sleep in the pits. Joseph and Jeremiah were not left in their pits, so we will not remain in ours. They were righteous before God. This made God to provide ways of their coming out of their pits. For us Christians therefore, we must be as righteous as possible for us to be moved out of our evil pits. We are to stand on what two personalities in the Bible known for passing through difficult moments of life said about coming out of evil pits and apply our minds on them. These men are Job and King David.

We must believe in God, trust in His Mighty Powers and use prayers of faith to come out of our evil pits. Job saw that any righteous man can be pulled out of his/her pit: “To bring back his soul from the pit, to be enlightened with the light of the living” (Job 33: 30 KJV). King David knew this when he said: “He brought me up also out of a horrible pit…” Psa. 40: 2 KJV). We are to trust God and prayerfully, in faithfulness and hopefulness wait on Him to come and rescue us from the pits. For Joseph, God used his very brothers to lift him out of the pit; though he was sold out (Gen. 37: 28). For Prophet Jeremiah, God used one Ebe-melech who went to the King to free him (Jer. 38: 8 – 10). The beloved in Christ, it is possible you have been in evil pits all the while now. Trust God who saved Joseph and Jeremiah and talk to Him. He will provide escape ways for you in Jesus name.

PRAYER:

Pray and demand help from God to provide you with escape routes from evil pits holding you hostage through Jesus name.
