DAILY HOPE DEVOTIONALS: APRIL 2ND. MORAL QUALITIES OF A CHRISTAIN KINDNESS (PART 1) Scripture Reading: 2 Sam. 9: 1-10; Eph. 4: 32; Col. 3: 12.
The way you treat other people determines the way you will be treated. Living in harmony with people forms the laws that govern the universe, especially the laws that govern conduct and relationship in the Bible. These laws involve kindness mostly as could be seen in Matt. 5: 7, “Blessed are the merciful for they shall obtain mercy”. “Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them; for this is the law and the prophets” Matt 7: 12.Again, “He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the Lord; and that which he hath given will be pay him again” Prov.19: 17.
It is important to note that in this topic, I will be using kindness and mercy interchangeably. If you want to receive mercy from God, you need to show mercy to others. If you cannot show mercy in judging others, you will be judged without mercy yourself also. Kindness is also one of the fruits of the spirit. We should let go of the idea that without money there’s nothing we can do to help others. With a heart of kindness, there is always something to give. When we say, leave a legacy and achieve greatness; we are not talking of you to get money and recognition; we are rather telling you to leave those with whom you cross path with, happiness and hope.
The book of Colossians 3: 12 gives us an all-inclusive qualities of Christian. It says: “Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering”. Kindness is a very Christ like characteristic. It is a natural known trait of believers especially one who is living in the Spirit of God: “Be kind towards one another…” One of the expressions of the Holy Spirit in our lives is to be kind (Rom. 2: 4). God is always very kind to us. He is kind, strong, deliberate, holy and righteous. The kindness of God leads to repentance.
If you live with somebody who is unkind, who mistreats you, you will always live with burden in your heart. And to remain kind in a situation where kindness is not seen anywhere is very difficult. But God will reward you for your kindness. An act of kindness sometimes is the strongest defensive mechanism you can have. Somebody accuses you wrongly and instead of defending yourself you remain mute and still show kindness to him or her. Kindness is a conquering element of character. Kindness is a strong vibrant godly trait for all Christians as commanded in Romans 12: 10 and Matthew 7: 12.
Prayer:
My heavenly father, help me to always show kindness to people around me.
I want to leave a legacy of happiness and hope to whomsoever my path crosses, I need the grace Oh God.
