DAILY HOPE DEVOTIONALS: MAY 9 WASTED OPPORTUNITY (5) SCRIPTURE: MARK 10: 42 – 45; JOHN 6: 44; 14: 6
The last group to look into in this series of “wasted opportunity” comes from the religious leaders who seem to be doing things differently from what God intended them to do for the world._ This devotional believes that every God’s accepted religion is God’s Representative and her members are God’s ambassadors. Once we are called into function as leaders in any religious organization we are to see it an opportunity to teach good morals, preach messages of good fellowship, speak against outright evil doing, rebuke those doing things wrongly etc. Those who become members of God’s approved religion, are to know that God has His purposes for making them become the members. Those of us Christians are to know that we never called ourselves into Christianity. God and Jesus did it as can be seen in (John 6: 44; 14: 6).
If God created the world and then planted human beings to oversee the affairs of the world; it means God wants us to do everything He did. If God told mankind to reproduce, He means to reproduce His likeness and image He imputed in us. He wants us to recreate good things which will bring comfort to lives and other palliatives to the world. To the Christians, we are told that God is love and, therefore, we must love even our enemies. God hates killing fellow human beings, therefore, we are to stay away from wasting human lives. Anything short of these means a wasted opportunity. The last to touch here is lordship of human beings over each other. As human beings, we are all created to serve one another in one way or the other.
God is not He who created slaves, but fellow human beings. Every human being is given gifts, talents, skills, wisdom, knowledge, understanding, grace etc., to use what is received to minister services to others. It is a great privilege and opportunity to be found amongst the children of God, and more so, a servant of God. Those who used the opportunity to make lives difficult for others are wasting their opportunities. If God does not delight in you for faithful services as His servant, you have wasted your opportunity. Jesus advised we servants of God to play the roles of servanthood and not lording ourselves on people under us (Mark 10: 44 – 45). The world is filled up people playing God in churches rather than being serving servants. May God not shift us to the group of “Wasted Opportunists” at His Second Coming in the name of Jesus Christ.
PRAYER:
LORD JESUS, grant me grace to serve your people as their servants rather than their lord. If I play the role of a lord, I will become a wasted opportunist in the Kingdom. Always enable me to live a humble life on the earth. Amen.
