Efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s electricity supply industry received a boost on Friday as the Special Adviser to the President on Power, Mr. Lanre Babalola, held strategic discussions with the management of the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) on enhancing grid reliability, operational efficiency, and power sector reforms.
The high-level engagement, held at NISO’s Corporate Headquarters in Abuja, underscored the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting the newly established system operator in delivering a more stable, transparent, and resilient national electricity grid.
According to a statement from the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO), the visit was led by the Special Adviser to the President on Power, Mr. Lanre Babalola, who was received by the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NISO, Engr. Abdu Bello Mohammed, alongside the organisation’s management team.
The meeting provided an opportunity for both parties to review the operations of the national grid and discuss ongoing reforms aimed at improving the performance of the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI).
Speaking during the visit, Babalola emphasized the need for prudent resource management, stronger operational discipline, and sustained interventions to improve grid performance across the country.
“There is a need for prudent resource management, enhanced operational discipline, and sustained efforts toward improving grid performance and reducing system disturbances across the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry,” he stated.
The Presidential Adviser reaffirmed the critical role of NISO in driving reforms within the power sector, describing the organisation as a key institution in the quest to build a more efficient and dependable electricity system.
He stressed that strengthening grid reliability and operational transparency remains essential to achieving long-term stability in the nation’s power sector and supporting economic growth.
Responding, Engr. Abdu Bello Mohammed assured the Presidential Adviser and his delegation of NISO’s unwavering commitment to delivering on its mandate and advancing reforms aimed at improving electricity supply nationwide.
“NISO remains fully committed to advancing grid reliability and operational excellence,” Mohammed said, pledging the organisation’s support towards achieving “a more robust and sustainable electricity supply industry.”
He noted that the system operator would continue to work closely with government and industry stakeholders to enhance system stability, improve operational efficiency, and ensure greater transparency in grid management.
The visit comes at a time when the Federal Government is intensifying efforts to reform the power sector, modernize electricity infrastructure, and address longstanding challenges affecting power generation, transmission, and distribution across the country.
Industry observers believe that closer collaboration between NISO and key government institutions will play a significant role in reducing system disturbances, improving service delivery, and strengthening investor confidence in Nigeria’s evolving electricity market.
