FME Disowns ‘National PTA’, Warns Parents Against Unauthorised Directives

The Federal Ministry of Education (FME) has disowned an association operating as the “National Parent-Teacher Association (PTA)” of the Federal Unity Colleges, warning parents and guardians against acting on directives or communications issued by the group.
The Ministry stated this in a press release issued on September 21, 2026, by its Director of Press and Public Relations, Boriowo Folasade, declaring that the association is neither recognised nor authorised to speak for the PTAs, parents, guardians or the 117 Federal Unity Colleges across the country.
According to the Ministry, the association “does not represent the individual PTAs in the 117 Federal Unity Colleges” and has not been granted authority to issue directives or communicate officially on behalf of the colleges.
“The Ministry has neither recognised nor authorised the association to speak on behalf of the Colleges, their PTAs, parents or guardians,” the statement said, adding that any directive, appeal, statement or communication issued by the group “has no official standing.”
The FME therefore advised parents and guardians to disregard communications emanating from the association and rely exclusively on official information from the Ministry and the management of their respective Federal Unity Colleges.
The Ministry said this was particularly important as the 2026/2027 academic session has commenced nationwide, urging parents and guardians to ensure that their children and wards return to their respective Federal Unity Colleges.
The Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, CON, reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to the effective administration of the Federal Unity Colleges and the provision of a conducive learning environment for students throughout the new academic session.
The Minister, according to the statement, also pledged the Ministry’s continued support for students’ academic and overall development, as the Federal Government works to strengthen the administration and learning environment across the nation’s Federal Unity Colleges.
