DAILY HOPE DEVOTIONAL: FEBRUARY 2 SO THAT YOU MAY KNOW (2) Scripture: John 3: 16; Romans 6: 23; 1 John 5: 13
As seen in yesterday’s devotional, being bothered to know more things or new things in life occupies the minds of people more than anything else. It has driven mankind to search for powers, natural and alternative knowledge. Many delved into digging into knowing more about life in the spheres of Spiritism, mysticism, demonology and other areas of mystical powers. Amongst these as seen yesterday is wanting to know how to live eternal life. It is clear that ordinarily, no human wants to die. The hate to die or fear to die has pushed many people into where eternal life can be gotten.
The doctrine of price pay for sin is death, but the gift of God to sinless one is eternal life challenges my mind more to seeking for how eternal life will be gotten (Romans 6: 23).
That there could be what one can do to live eternal life surrounded by peace and joy, instead of eternal torment.
I am one who has subjected my thoughts to finding out why death sticks to life. It is mystical to see that one who had breathe and full of life suddenly ceases breathing, becomes insensitive to touching, no longer feel pain, lie motionless and speechless. It is more mystical seeing a fellow human being wheeled into mortuary, pushed into refrigerator and left there for as many days awaiting burial.
It is horrific seeing one known for best dresses, eating of best foods and in love with anything that gives pleasure been pushed into the ground and firmly covered with sand without shouting for help. All these and more gave me concern to seek into knowing how to live forever – “So that I may know…” looking into the Christians’ view of eternal life compounded natural senses again. How could just accepting Jesus Christ as Saviour and Son of God makes one know what eternal life is?
According to 1 John 5: 13, believing in the name of the Son Of God makes Christians know and have the assurance of receiving eternal life. Doctrine of eternal life poses another problem to ordinary and literal minds. Many see eternal life as living forever and never to die again. Those who believe in this literally are thrown into confusion seeing devoted Christians dying and being buried. Seeing eternal life as what to meet after death, and after the final judgment of the world has again made some wanting to know eternal life as futuristic life, that is a life to live in the future.
My beloved, we have to know that Apostle John wrote in his Epistle for us to know that eternal life should be maintained while we dwell in the physical realm before transitioning into heaven. Hold your breath and follow us till the end of these discussions.
PRAYER:
Pray and ask God to grant you knowledge to hear His Words and understand them from the Spiritual realm so that you know what this eternal life is all about. Ask the Holy Spirit to explain to you today, what eternal life really means in Jesus name.
