DAILY HOPE DEVOTIONAL:FEBRUARY 10 NOT UNTO DEATH (1)Scripture:John 11:1-4
It was in the morning of January 28, 2023 in our bathroom that something that could be regarded too insignificant caught my attention. It was a smallest and tiniest creation I saw moving in water of a rubber bucket in the bathroom. It was lifeless at the first sight. A little while it started moving round attempting to climb up from the water. It attempted several times and fell back. I watched with amazement and sympathy for the creation. My thinking was how has this insect survived in the water for the three days the bucket was filled with the water. Another thought went to how it happened that the insect is still receiving air. Suddenly, my heart was moved to save the little creation. I quietly drained the water into another bucket, ensuring that the insect did not flow out with the water. The insect was saved.
This narration illustrated how human beings struggle with different ugly circumstances in life. Very often, we find ourselves in situation that how we fell inside it cannot be explained. Some of these situations or conditions will be too severe, sorrowful, hopeless that thinking of surviving will be doubted. In most of these conditions or situations, two categories of human beings stand out. One category is those who just conclude that the end of life has come and therefore, no need struggling for surviving. The second category are those with positive hope expecting to keep up the struggling till a helper comes around. The latter category is those who think like Jesus Christ in the gospel of John 11: 1 – 4. This category knows that the situations they are inside will not end in death (Not unto Death).
Today’s devotional opens another series addressing the minds of readers on the importance of developing firm faith and hope against all odds of life. There is a general saying that “not every sickness ends up in death.” If everyone that is held down with sickness dies, human beings would not have been in the world today. The story in the passage is that of Lazarus, the brother of Martha and Mary in Bethel. He caught sickness seriously. The sad story of his sickness came to Jesus. To every mortal mind, Lazarus would not survive. But Jesus Christ told His disciples that Lazarus’ sickness was “Not unto Death.” The beloved, here comes another hope sustaining series assuring readers that, not only sicknesses, but whatever conditions we see around us merely carry messages of death. Please follow us on!
