Former Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Kingsley Chinda, has emerged as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress for the 2027 Rivers State governorship election after securing a landslide victory at the party’s primaries.
Chinda, who reportedly contested as the sole candidate following the withdrawal of other aspirants, polled 268,497 valid votes cast during the primaries conducted across the state.
The development was contained in a statement issued by his Press Secretary, Ekesunnie Caleb, who also signed the release announcing the outcome of the exercise.
Declaring the result, Chairman of the APC Governorship and House of Assembly Primaries Committee, Laori Kwamoti, said Chinda satisfied all constitutional requirements and party regulations to emerge the party’s standard bearer.
“Rt. Hon. Kingsley Chinda scored 268,497 valid votes cast to clinch the ticket, having satisfied the constitutional requirements and party regulations,” Kwamoti stated.
The primaries attracted large turnout of party faithful, particularly in Chinda’s hometown of Elelenwo, where he participated in the voting exercise amid cheers from supporters and APC members.
Speaking shortly after his emergence, Chinda promised to govern Rivers State with the fear of God, respect for the rule of law and accountability in public service if elected governor in 2027.
He also pledged to run an inclusive administration that would accommodate all interests within the party and the state.
“It is going to be a teamwork. My theme has always been ‘I win, you win’. The party is going to sit down and chart the course and process moving forward,” Chinda said.
The APC candidate further appreciated fellow aspirants who withdrew from the contest, describing their actions as a contribution to the credibility and peaceful conduct of the primaries.
He also thanked party leaders and delegates for finding him worthy of the ticket and pledged to justify the confidence reposed in him through purposeful and people-oriented leadership.
