DAILY HOPE DEVOTIONALS: MAY 7 WASTED OPPORTUNITY (3)
As pointed out from the first series of this devotional of “Wasted Opportunity” there are vast areas to point at if examples are to be cited. We are just touching very few of them. Today devotional takes its text from Matthew 25: 1 – 13 that talked about the ten virgins to illustrate how ten virgins were given same marriage opportunities. On the appointed day, five of the virgins went into the wedding hall fully prepared with their lamps filled with 0il that will last them till the end of all the activities. But the other five, known as the five foolish virgins went without enough oil in their lamps. When the grooms all arrived, it was the virgins with enough oil that got wedded. The five others lost out because they went out looking for oil when their grooms came in. This parable, among other lessons, teaches us that failure to put up good wisdom to handle marriage matters has caused many to waste their marriage opportunities. Some wasted the opportunities by asking for the opinions of their friends before saying “Yes we can get married.”
Many husbands and wives wasted their marriage opportunities by failing to use their wisdom to build themselves a kind of home they needed. In every marriage, God gave the man a unique ability to build the wife into a wonderful house wife. So also the wife. But same lost out by seeing only faults and bad characters of each other. Some men and women use counsels of friends, fathers, mothers or relative to ruin their marriage that ended in wasted opportunities. This devotional believes that God planed marriage to be a place of opportunity to turn a worst husband into the best husband, so also the wife. When this is done, blissful marriage will be built and God will reward the two with handsome gifts.
It had happened that the lady or the gentleman rejected by an intending partner because of one thing or the other turned out a very resourceful and wonderful husband or wife. The former who rejected lived a regrettable life forever. What a wasted opportunity? There was this lady who out rightly rejected a young man who proposed marriage to her on the basis that the young man will never get money like her man friend, a married army captain. Within two years later, the young man married another lady, got a car and the other lady lost her job and the relationship with army captain, still single and without mobility. One day she accidentally met the young man she rejected with his car, she discovered how she had wasted the opportunity of marriage proposal extended to her years back. The beloved, do you have such a story? The mercy of God will visit you.
PRAYER:
Merciful father, I might have been having delay marriage because I had missed an opportunity. Kindly give me another chance in Jesus name. Father, I might be suffering in my present marriage as a result of wasted opportunity, kindly relief me of my suffering now in Jesus name.
