DAILY HOPE DEVOTIONAL: JUNE 11 THE BIBLICAL WATCHMAN (4) SCRIPTURE: HABAKKUK 2: 1 – 3
The vision Prophet Habakkuk saw that many motivational messages of “write the vision down” are drawn from was what God showed Prophet Habakkuk while he tarried at nights previewing what his people are, the plans of God to send external invaders to come upon them as their watchman. The Prophet said: – “I will climb up to my watchtower and stand at my guardpost. There I will wait to see what the LORD says and how He will answer my complaint” (Habakkuk 2: 2 Africa Study Bible). Prophet’s saying that he will climb up to his watchtower showed he is taking a prayerful position to examine the situation on ground while others are sleeping over the problems of Israel. Prophet Habakkuk saw violence everywhere, so he took the case to the LORD. He asked the LORD for how long would the violence last (Hab. 1: 2).
The characteristic of a watchman seen here is ability to be concerned with the trouble of people when the people seem helpless about it. God first told Habakkuk that He was raising the King of Babylon who would come and deal with Israelites mercilessly (Hab. 1: 6 – 9). Prophet Habakkuk complained the second time telling God not to allow the enemies destroy everybody completely. Christian heads of churches are to emulate Prophet Habakkuk by being concerned with the violence, predicament and molestation of the communities where they found themselves. This has to be done by being spiritual watchmen for the people. It was when Prophet Habakkuk kept prodding God with questions why this and why that that God responded by showing him in vision what He had for the people of Israel in future.
God therefore, showed Prophet Habakkuk the vision of when He will deliver and restore his people. The period of the restoration will tarry a little longer after the vision but it will surely happen. This devotional believes that a good watchman should be one who supplicates for his people in time of difficulties and not the prophesying of deaths and woes on people. The world needs more of Prophet Habakkuk today to stand on watchtowers in the spiritual realm to see good plans of God for our future. There are good plans of God for the nations of the globe. We just need a spiritual or Biblical watchmen and women to download God’s better programmes for the world meant to come out soon. May you reading this devotional be one of the great messengers of change in Jesus name.
PRAYER:
Father, I sincerely desire to be a messenger of hope for my nation and that of the whole world. I have been hopeless believing that you have given us up for total destruction. But today, you have spoken to me that your good vision for the world is prepared. I ask for your grace to receive your vision for the people in the name of Jesus Christ.
