DAILY HOPE DEVOTIONAL: JULY 11 WRONG APPLICATION OF THE LAW OF TIT FOR TAT (4) SCRIPTURE: Psalms 109: 7 – 8; Proverbs 25: 21 – 22; 2 Thessalonians 1: 6

Spread the love

As been seen in the past three days, we have been discussing a very bitter lesson of not to avenge on our enemies, those murdering us and our relations intentionally, assailants of innocent people and kidnappers. Many of us would have been tempted to search out passages in the Bible which seem to be speaking in favour of retaliation. For instance, reading Psalms 109: 1- 20 may sound we are to pray for every evil from people towards us. However, a critical view on this Psalm will show that the Psalmist is asking God to bring about justice upon our enemies Himself; according to His good and perfect will. Apostle Paul towed same line of leaving vengeance to God, when he said that God sees “…it is a righteous thing with God to recompense tribulation to them that trouble you” (2 Thess. 1: 6). As Christians, we have to go with Jesus and His Disciples.

We must be ready to forgive those who wronged us no matter how right we are. While it may seem good to remain angry and bitter towards those who have hurt us, Jesus told us to forgive them as seen in Mark 11: 25). We must also pray for those who hurt us. This again looks hard to do. Again, it is what Jesus wants us to do. He also said we are to pray for those who treat us bad (Luke 6: 28). Jesus prayed that God forgives those who nailed Him to the Cross (Luke 23: 34).

Christians who do not avenge on their enemies personally but love and pray for them and do good things to them are indirectly increasing their enemies’ punishments.

We are to love our enemies (Lev. 19: 18; Prov. 25: 21 – 22; Luke 6: 35). It will be seen in Prov. 25: 21 – 22 and Rom. 12: 20 – 21 that doing good to those who hurt us is like pouring burning coal upon their heads. We are neither to throw ourselves into their hands nor return violence for violence.

We are to seek for whatever will bring peace between us and our oppressors. Those who are bent on killing us because of religious differences are doing so ignorantly. We are to pray for their eyes to open, and ask God to take care of those bent on eliminating us from the surface of the earth.

God knows how to disgrace them, humble them and make them objects of public shame. Even in this present age, faithful prayers to God free of hate on our enemies will bring us divine interventions quickly. The beloved, keep your hope alive!!

PRAYER:

ALMIGHTY FATHER, avenge our enemies yourself. Release your host of army into our enemies’ camps and handle them the ways they deserve in Jesus name. Protect and preserve our children from their evil plans in Jesus name.

POSITIVE DECLARATION:

I acknowledge that the Lord is my refuge and shelter from the bullets and arrows of my enemies.
