DAILY HOPE DEVOTIONAL: SEPTEMBER 7 Topic: GOD HATES MURMURING (Part 2). Scriptures: Num. 14: 27 – 35; Pro. 15: 13

Spread the love

“Do all things without murmuring and disputing” (Phil. 2: 14).

Murmuring is a low sound made when many people are speaking. Murmuring means talking in an unhappy way. Murmuring, grumbling, and complaining are unhealthy habits especially for Christians. You are murmuring when you complain about the rain, the heat of the sun, the food on your table. You complain about how tasking your job is, how ugly you are, how dark your skin is, how flat or pointy your nose is. You complain how you give birth to same sex, the poverty in your family, etc. Every nature of murmuring hurts God because it shows that one who murmurs is bitter against God. Moses said “…your complaints are not against us but against the Lord” (Exod. 16: 8). You are complaining against God, the creator of the universe!

Murmuring is an insult to God. In every ugly situation, pray instead. The Bible says: “Be careful for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known unto God “(Phil. 4: 6). When you expect that life will flow ever smoothly, if you feel that the world owes you something and you always have that attitude of self- entitlement, you can easily murmur when you don’t get your way. Murmuring is a ‘disease’ that can affect anybody no matter how long that person has been in faith. It appears that God may tolerate some sins, yet there are some He cannot forbear. God does not tolerate the sin of murmuring whether in a life, home, or church. The sin of murmuring is contagious. If it is located in a wife, the children will soon begin to murmur. God hates murmuring.

Complaining and murmuring does not give God glory, what it does is repelling people away from God. Trials that happen in life are to build us in Christ, and we can be rest assured that all work together for good. Rejoice and count your blessings daily. Stop comparing yourself with another person for this forms the reason behind ungrateful attitude. Cultivate a thankful attitude; always look for a reason to thank God. Stop complaining about what you can change when positive attitude is applied. Make a covenant with yourself, and a commitment never to murmur again. You should not be a complaining companion; add value to your personality by thinking differently and positively.

PRAY POINT:

Help me to begin to sing praises to your holy name anytime I’m tempted to murmur.

CONFESSION:

From today henceforth, I make a covenant with myself that I will not murmur again. So help me God.
