The Kogi State Government, under the leadership of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, has approved a 50% subsidy on health insurance premium deductions for civil servants for the next one year.

This is in addition to the existing 5% contribution by government to the Formal Sector Health Insurance Plan, aimed at protecting civil servants and their dependents from costly out of pocket healthcare payments.

The Governor has now directed that a previous agreement with stakeholders to increase healthcare deductions to 3.5% of workers’ pay as health insurance premium be deferred by one year while the 1.75% current deduction be maintained.

Barr. Moses Okezie-Okafor, the Director General of Research and Development Kogi State, hailed Governor Ododo, stating that this initiative is a remarkable demonstration of Governor Ododo’s strong devotion to the welfare of his civil servants. He emphasized that this 50% subsidy on health insurance premiums would provide much-needed financial relief to workers, allowing them more disposable income for their needs.

He noted that the health insurance scheme has solved the problem of quality and affordable healthcare for the workers who can now focus more on delivering the quality service needed to propel Kogi State toward accelerated development.

The legal luminary, who also heads Kogipedia and the Special Actionable Research Team A (SPARTA), recognized this development as a key milestone for both Kogi State and Nigeria. He reiterated that prioritizing worker welfare is essential for achieving robust governance, improving public service efficiency, and ultimately strengthening the Nation’s economic health.

Barr. Okezie-Okafor also explained that Governor Ododo’s decision is in alignment with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda as it related to workers welfare and the overall effort to combat multidimensional poverty at an organic level. Okezie-Okafor also observed that Ododo’s continuity and consolidation approach to governance reinforces the solid foundation laid by the previous administration of Alhaji Yahaya Bello, and ensures steady progress in policy implementation for the overall benefit of the people.

He assured that SPARTA under his leadership continues to mine data-driven insights from ongoing projects and initiatives of the State Government while Kogipedia will continue to track, document and publish Government’s projects and activities.
