DAILY HOPE DEVOTIONALS: NOVEMBER 20 DANGER OF WALKING IN DARKNESS (2) SCRIPTURE: ISAIAH 9: 1 – 7; JOHN 1: 9; 8: 12
Yesterday’s devotional led readers into knowing how the world has ever subscribed to falsehood, deceits and believing in things never true, even when she sees that those things are not true. The last paragraph of yesterday’s devotional said Jesus came and removed the world from darkness and made her see a great light. This great light is the undiluted truth about God, things human beings should know to give them life-saving knowledge, understanding and wisdom. We as humans are to accept the gospel of Jesus as light to all kind of livings to live and enjoy peace all round. Those refusing to follow Jesus’ teaching have chosen to be walking in darkness. In John 1: 9 we see that Jesus is the light. Jesus referred to Himself as “the light of the world” in John 8: 12. We are to follow Him and not to follow the world as following the world equates walking in darkness.
There are dangers in walking in darkness. Anyone following the things of the world knows how dangerous it is for doing so. There is no doubt that many Christians still follow the things of this world more religiously than the words of God Jesus taught them. These Christians have dozens of dangers stocked in their lives. Ordinarily, darkness can be a terrifying thing. It robs the law-abiding man of security, provides cover for criminals, limits visibility and can be a factor in accidents and injuries. Physical darkness leads to fears, emotional problems and psychological problem like depression. Refusing to follow Jesus’ words leads to Spiritual darkness responsible for sicknesses of the souls of people.
Walking in darkness instead of in Spiritual Light that Jesus brought to the world has led some people taking up lifestyle of sin, preoccupation with occult people, or denies people the presence of God in their life. This in itself forms the backbones of so many problems engulfing the globe. Jesus did not stop at saying He is the light of the world. He said He is the way, the truth and life. He said He is the door. He said He is the bread of life. In essence, Jesus is saying that for anyone to know safer ways to living, such has to follow Him. Someone looking for truth about how to live well in this world should meet Him. He means that there can never be any door that provides security or leads to successes apart from Him. There will be no need to kill and destroy so as to have foods. Just follow His ways and foods are supplied.
PRAYER:
LORD JESUS, I refuse to follow the world and its teachings from today, help my unbelief and make it possible for me to follow your lights of living. Amen.
