Ado Local Government Chairman Fosters Unity Between Ukwonyo and Ikpomolokpo Communities

In a significant display of community leadership, Ado Local Government Chairman, Engr. Sunny Oche, recently hosted a delegation from the Ukwonyo Community at his country home. The visit, a testament to the enduring bonds between Ukwonyo and the neighboring Ikpomolokpo community, served as a powerful symbol of reconciliation and unity.

The delegation, led by Mr. Mike Ekwata, National Vice President of the Ukwonyo Development Association (UkDA), included members of the Ukwonyo traditional council and elders. The warm reception highlighted the historical ties between the two communities, with Elder Ogbaji Oche, an Ewulor elder and Ada Iyeche of Ewulor, emphasizing the importance of peaceful coexistence and shared prosperity. Madam Theresa Abah, woman leader of the Ayiolaje Yikpomolokpo, offered prayers for continued unity and understanding.

The visit according to press statement        e-sign by the Principal Private Secretary of the Chairman, Innocent Igelle  underscored the Executive Chairman’s commitment to peace, unity and community development.

Ahjia Ogwa Halima, Chairlady of UkDA and National Vice President of the Daughters of Ufia International (DOUI), announced plans for girl-child development initiatives in the area. Chief George Isah (Redu II), Acting Ward Head of Ukwonyo, formally declared a resolution of past conflicts and called for the resumption of traditional celebrations between the communities. Ogrinya Ojoko Ikona, Chairman of the Ukwonyo Council of Elders, echoed these sentiments, urging both communities to move forward in harmony.

Engr. Sunny Oche, in his address, emphasized the intertwined nature of Ukwonyo and Ikpomolokpo, referring to Utonkon as the “United States of Ado.” He praised the efforts of Chief Redu George Isah in fostering unity and expressed confidence in the enduring bond between the two communities. The event concluded with an exchange of gifts, symbolizing the renewed commitment to collaboration and mutual respect.

This visit herald the importance of community engagement and collaborative leadership in addressing challenges and building stronger, peaceful and more unified communities.
