…..NIGERIA’S ELECTORAL FUTURE: WHY REFORM IS NO LONGER A CHOICE, BUT A NECESSITY

Nigerian politics has been plagued by a culture of superficial representation, where politicians prioritize grandstanding over genuine service to the people. The reality is that political representation is more than wearing elaborate attire or waving at constituents from a distance. It is about truly representing the interests of the people and working tirelessly to improve their lives.

Unfortunately, Nigerian politics has been reduced to a mere spectacle, where the oppressed are given the illusion of choice every few years. They are allowed to decide which representatives of the ruling class will represent and repress them. This cycle of deception has continued for far too long, with the masses being fooled by manifestos filled with lies and deceit.

However, the tide is turning. The year 2027 promises to be a year of political revolution in Nigeria. It will be a year where personal records and achievements will be the yardstick for support and endorsement. No longer will politicians be able to deceive the masses with empty promises and grandstanding.

As Nigerians, we must wake up and take control of our destiny. We must refuse to be fooled again by the corrupt cabals that have held our country hostage for so long. It is time to rescue our beloved country from the hands of incompetent and corrupt politicians.

The statistics are alarming. Despite making up approximately half of the population, women’s representation in Nigerian politics is abysmally low. According to a study by the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies, female representation in the National Assembly has been declining, with only 11 female representatives out of 360 members in the 9th National Assembly.

Furthermore, the study found that despite the low representation of women in the National Assembly, the bills sponsored by female legislators have had a significant impact on the lives of all Nigerians. This highlights the importance of having more women in politics, as they bring a unique perspective and approach to governance.

The time for change is now. We must demand more from our politicians and hold them accountable for their actions. We must also work to create a more inclusive and equitable political system, where all Nigerians have an equal opportunity to participate and make their voices heard.

The future of Nigerian politics must be built on a foundation of genuine representation, accountability, and inclusivity. We must move beyond symbolic representation and demand substance from our politicians. The year 2027 promises to be a turning point in Nigerian politics, and we must seize the opportunity to create a better future for ourselves and generations to come.

The weakness in the management of the country’s affairs is as a result of defective political system that allows incompetent and dishonest persons to manipulate our electoral system using the loopholes to gain advantage during elections and for the country to get competent people into office we must fix our electoral laws and strengthen it and to block all forms of legal loopholes to undermine the credibility of the country elections. The National Assembly must show that they are there to work for the interest of the Nigerian people and not for their own selfish interest, to prove that they must immediately begin the process of reviewing our electoral laws to ensure that we do not experience what happened during the 2023 general election in Nigeria ahead of the 2023 general elections.

It is disheartening to see that APC have worked tirelessly not allow the rejig of of the electoral act 2022 as Amended ahead of the 2027 elections so that we have no choice but to rely on this defective existing act to be used as the source for the election.

Electoral reform is crucial for the credibility and legitimacy of Nigeria’s electoral process. With the 2027 General Elections on the horizon, it’s essential to address the deepening crisis of electoral governance in Nigeria. The country’s electoral laws, regulations, and guidelines need to be reformed to prevent rigging and ensure free and fair elections.

The importance of electoral reform cannot be overstated. It’s essential for democratic consolidation, as it ensures that the will of the people is reflected in the outcome of elections. Electoral reform also helps to prevent electoral violence, promotes transparency and accountability, and enhances the credibility of the electoral process.

Electoral reform is essential for the credibility and legitimacy of Nigeria’s electoral process. The 2027 General Elections provide an opportunity for Nigeria to get it right and ensure that the will of the people is reflected in the outcome of the elections.
