Barr. Daniel Bwala Highlights President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Vision for a Progressive and Inclusive Nigeria
In an appearance on TVC’s widely acclaimed political program, ThisMorning, anchored by Nifemi Oguntoye, Barr. Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser on Media and Policy Communications to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, eloquently outlined the administration’s vision and progress. Barr. Bwala emphasized President Tinubu’s commitment to ensuring that Nigeria works for everyone, not just a select few, while addressing key national issues and showcasing the government’s achievements.
According to him, “The President’s aims and intentions are to ensure Nigeria works for everyone and not just a few people. Over the last few months, Nigerians are beginning to see the visible, feelable, and touchable effects of his policies.”
A Focus on Local Governance
The Special Adviser on Media & Policy Communication underscored the significance of governance at the state and local levels, highlighting that 70% of the Nigerian Constitution’s provisions are centered around the states. “Governance is inherently local, and as such, we must continue to hold our governors accountable for their actions,” he stated. He called for Nigerians to view politics from a broader perspective, emphasizing the need to assess governance at all levels rather than focusing solely on the federal government.
Challenging the Opposition and Media
Bwala urged the opposition to engage in constructive discourse, providing superior arguments and viable alternatives to policies they oppose, such as the removal of fuel subsidies. He further noted, “Surprisingly, the media is also complicit in promoting narratives and conjectures that do not foster robust conversations around the government’s policies.”
Unprecedented Progress Under President Tinubu
He highlighted significant milestones in the administration’s efforts to revitalize critical sectors of the economy. For the first time in decades, the Port Harcourt and Warri refineries are functional, with work ongoing to ensure the Kaduna refinery follows suit. He described these achievements as “a transformation from ineffectiveness to effectiveness,” reflecting President Tinubu’s commitment to driving change.
Policies Rooted in Vision and Accountability
The President’s policies, Barr. Bwala explained, reflect his focus on tackling critical challenges like hunger and climate change. During the climate change summit and the G20, President Tinubu stressed the importance of agriculture and sustainable development.
On economic growth, the Presidential Spokesperson remarked, “There’s nowhere in the world where you’re carrying out a reform and everything remains the same.” He pointed to concrete results, including a decline in unemployment, an increase in employment rates, reduced importation, expanded exportation to Europe, and enhanced state revenues. Furthermore, infrastructural development and the introduction of student loan options underscore the administration’s commitment to progress.
Local Government Autonomy and Grassroots Development
President Tinubu remains committed to ensuring that local governments function autonomously. Barr. Bwala assured Nigerians that the President is not seeking to undermine governors but rather to create a Nigeria that works from the grassroots up. The administration prioritizes national growth, healthcare, and primary healthcare at the local level.
In line with this commitment, the President has introduced a performance assessment framework to evaluate the effectiveness and accountability of his ministers. Bwala noted, “Every task, every decision, and every action will be assessed and evaluated to ensure accountability and effectiveness.”
