DAILY HOPE DEVOTIONAL: FEBRUARY 2 GOD SPANKS HIS CHILDREN FOR GOOD (2) SCRIPTURES: HEB. 12: 5 – 6; PROV. 3: 11 – 12
Yesterday’s devotional was an introduction which opens our understanding to the fact that not every ugly thing happening to us should be taken as bad. Christians should not be too hasty to conclude that God is unfaithful to them when ugly things are happening to them. Not until we inquire of the LORD His intent for what we are passing through, we should not conclude negatively. However, we Christians should discover what God means for us when we are passing through life challenges if we humbly go to Him in prayers.
In today’s devotional, we are using Rachel, the wife of Jacob as case study. She was initially barren because she hated her sister Leah, who was her second in the marriage. Leah was not Jacob’s choice but her father’s intrigue made her a first wife to Jacob. And because Rachel hated her God made Rachel to become barren till Leah had given birth to six boys (Gen. 29: 31; 30: 20, 22). I personally called Rachel’s barrenness a spank from God. From this we can infer that any ill-bearing behaviour of a Christian towards others can attract God’s spank on that individual.
At time, when a Christian is deviating from who God created him or her to be, God spanks such with various kinds of problems in order to make that individual checkup his or her life activities. For instance, if a Prayer Warrior begins to relax in his or her office, God will spank him or her with sickness or disease that will appear very terrible. Fear of death will make the Prayer Warrior to return to his or her office. When praying to God for deliverance, God will reveal the secret of the sickness or the disease to him or her. The returning of this individual to God will reposition him or her more powerfully than the initial stage. Job understands this principle that after God tested a human being such will emerge more precious than the former life. He would say: “But He knoweth the way that I take; when He hath tested me, I shall come forth as gold” (Job 23: 10 KJV).
The Beloved, how have you been interpreting your hardship in life, afflictions and other unfortunate incidents? Do you find out if it is your failure in who God wants you to be or for your better tomorrow that you are been spanked? As Christians, we must try to inquire from God why funny things happen to us and also what God wants us to receive from the so called attacks. It is only through this action we will know that God is He who is spanking us. Let us not look at the devils in every affliction that comes upon us! God might be spanking us for a holier and more righteous tomorrow.
PRAYERS:
1. Ask God for an enablement to know why things happen to you differently at times.
2. Ask God to help you abide with Him all through the period of His spanking you in Jesus name.
3. Ask the Holy Spirit of God to enable you wait until your change comes at the end of the afflictions in the name of Jesus.
STATEMENT OF CONFESSION:
I am God’s peculiar person. He will keep me till the end of my problems.
