Specifically, this devotional pinches its tent on being ruled by fear. Therefore, discussing what is fear; nature of fear as well as different kinds of fear might not be necessary. Fact is that, every human being; even animals have fear on the inside. We all operate on either good fear or bad fear. Good fear guides us from danger. The world is dominated with bad fear or negative fear. There is danger in living a life dominated by fear. Greater numbers of the world populace are living and being controlled by fear. This devotional is set to point out the evil of being ruled by fear and also proffers brief ways to control living in negative fear.

There are millions and millions of ways we are ruled by fear. That is, living in and being controlled by fear every day. We are daily confronted with fear of death, failure, rejection, broken marriage and unsuccessful business. There is fear of violence, fear of accident, fear of armed robbers, hired assassins etc. In fact, it will be right to conclude that those who are ruled by fear are more than two-third of the world population. Fear is the greatest principality wreaking havocs on humanity. These days, the level of being controlled by fear has monumentally increased as more people ventured into higher degrees of wickedness. Many psychologists, philosophers and motivational speakers have written wonderful books on fear and how to overcome it. Christians too have their wonderful manual on how to live above dangerous fears. This manual is the Bible.

Apostle Paul advised the Philippian Christians to be anxious about nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication…” (Phil. 4: 6 KJV). To be anxious connotes fearfulness. It involves worries, uneasiness and being troubled. A mind full of these words is being ruled by fear. Unfortunately, most Christians these days are highly being ruled by fears. Many Christians today go about with the consciousness of evil spirits going after them; enemies looking for their heads, witches and wizards destroying their businesses, children and families. Many Christians have forgotten that the Bible made us to know that the Spirit given to regenerated Christian is not of fear. It seems Apostle Paul saw in Timothy the spirit of “fear and timidity” and discouraged him of such trait. He told him that “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind” (2 Tim. 1: 7 KJV). Africa Study Bible puts this thus “For God has not given us spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love and self-discipline” (2 Tim. 1: 7).

As Christians, our minds are not supposed to being ruled all days by negative fears. The shocking thing is that some Pastors, Evangelists, Apostles and Prophets have majored in stuffing fears into their members’ minds. The vulnerable Christians here are seen traversing the cities and nations seeking Servants of God who can reveal their problems to them; who is after them, who stops them from being productive in marriages etc. Some of these servants of God take the advantage of those being ruled by fear to enrich themselves as they charge for consultancy, prayers and purchasing of mantles. Question to be answered is “Are we to look away from God for safety and protections because of fear or to look on to God in all things?” The next series might answer this question.

PRAYER

Pray and ask God to show you the danger of fear and how His anger boils against those looking away from Him because of fear.
Pray and ask God to always direct your minds and steps to a godly Servant of God for prayers, counselling and deliverance in Jesus name.

POSITIVE CONFESSION

I am a product of God’s word which says “fear not.” I have the spirit of boldness and of sound mind. Hallelujah!
