DAILY HOPE DEVOTIONAL: FEBRUARY 24 DIVINE HELP (3) Scriptures: 2 Kings 4: 1-6, 1 Kings 17: 1-6
The widow in our text today who was a wife of a Prophet of God finds herself in a traumatic situation that made her cry to Prophet Elisha. Her husband is dead, she was indebted and her creditors were around to take her two sons as slaves, since she had no money to pay the debt. The man of God demanded to know what she has in her house; “thine handmaid hath not anything in the house, save a pot of oil.” He said to her, “Go, borrow thee empty vessels, borrow not a few, then come home and lock the door behind you, you and your sons. Pour the oil into each container, when each is full, set it aside” the man of God instructed. She filled all the containers until there were no more containers, then the oil stopped flowing. Prophet Elisha told her, go and sell the oil and pay your creditors and then, live on the rest. Her obedience to the word of the prophet brought to an end the embarrassment from her creditors; she paid all her debts and had much to live on thereafter.
Widows and orphans are always vulnerable and helpless people, they however, occupy the center of God’s heart, and hence He cannot deny them of any good thing. Whatever your situation may be, never under estimate the power of God, nor the extent to which He can help you. Open up your mind, have a positive mindset, keep your hope alive, for whatever God cannot do does not exist!! Help is coming your way soon, because God can break protocol for your sake, He can do anything for you. Be willing and obedient so that you can eat the fruits of the land (Isaiah 1:19).
God told Elijah, “leave where you are right now, go and hide yourself by the brook of Cherith for I have commanded the ravens to feed you there” (paraphrased). Ravens are unclean scavenger birds sent by God to provide food for Elijah twice a day, every morning and evening. God chooses the despised things of the world to confound the mighty, and He uses the foolish to bring the mighty to nothing. Your help may not come from your rich uncle, brother or friend. God has plenty of ravens to supply the needs of His Children, He will send you help from where you least expected. Continue to look unto Him.
Prayer points:
(1) Oh Lord, my Father, send your heavenly ravens to supply my needs and bring me and my family out of poverty and backwardness in the name of Jesus.
(2) I want to love you and obey you more, give me the grace to do this Oh God.
Confessions:
Where I am today may not be palatable for me, but I know that my God cannot forget me, He will surely help me and take me to where I suppose to be in Jesus Name.
