

IWD 2025: WE WILL PERSIST IN ADVOCATING FOR THE RIGHTS OF WOMEN AND THE GIRL-CHILD-Deputy Speaker Lami
The Deputy Speaker, Benue State House of Assembly, Chief Hon. Mrs Lami Danladi Ogenyi has expressed her commitment and that of her office in advocating for the rights of women and the girl-child, ensuring they receive equal opportunities to flourish and positively impact their generation.
The Benue State Assembly Deputy Speaker who also doubled as the Vice Chairman of the nation’s forum of Deputy Speaker of Houses of Assembly gave the commitment as the world celebrates International Women’s Day 2025, recognising the resilience, achievements, and contributions of women across all sectors.
Her ideology does not only resonates with the global call for gender inclusivity, equality and the fight for the rights of women but also stands as a testament to axiom that what men can do women can even do it better as a she takes the led in effective and efficient representation of her constituency ever since creation.
This year’s theme, “Accelerate Action” highlights the progress made in gender equality and the need for continued efforts to break barriers and create opportunities for women and girl-child across the globe.
Hon. Lami in a press statement she personally e-signed says she is delighted to join the lglobal community in commemorating this year’s international women day.
“Honorable women, friends and partners in nation building, I am delighted to join you in commemorating this year’s International Women’s Day.”
Recounting the achievements of women globally with particular emphasis on Benue women and women residing in Benue, the Deputy Speaker noted…
“This day serves as a poignant reminder of the remarkable social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women globally, with particular emphasis on the accomplishments of Benue women and those residing in the Ado state constituency.”
Her emergence and the effective the representation of the Ado people in the state assembly signifies a milestone that demonstrates the evolving role of women in legislation and leadership. Her effectiveness and effeciency in her responsibilities as a Legislator and a political leader serves as an inspiration to women within and beyond the political space, reinforcing the message that leadership is about vision and ability, not gender.
Chief Hon. Mrs. Ogenyi who aligned herself with the theme of the year emphasizes her continued commitment to ensuring equal opportunities for women that will make them flourish and impact positively in their society and generation.
“In alignment with this year’s theme, “For all women and girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment”, we will persist in advocating for the rights of women and the girl-child, ensuring they receive equal opportunities to flourish and positively impact their generation.”
The Hon. Deputy Speaker enjoined women across the world not to be deterred by adversity however, charged them to navigate the journey of life with hope, faith and determination.
“Let us draw inspiration from the notion that women are the cornerstone of a home and, by extension, a nation. Indeed, the presence of a woman brings a unique touch. My esteemed mothers, friends, and partners, let us not be deterred by adversity as we navigate this journey with hope, faith, and determination, striving to have our voices heard globally.
“Always remember that with diligence and perseverance, you will overcome obstacles and achieve your aspirations.
“As your representative and partner, I have consistently championed the advocacy of women’s rights and empowerment, as well as their participation in government. I will continue to utilize my office to ensure the attainment of this objective.
“I extend my sincere gratitude to everyone who shares this vision and has provided unwavering support throughout this journey. You are the true architects of nation building.
“As we celebrate this day, let us continue to embody the virtues of a true African woman, showcasing our rich cultural heritage before the global community.”
Today celebration is more than just a commemoration but a call on leaders, federal government, well meaning Nigerians to invest in promoting women’s rights and gender equality that will create more opportunities and bring more women into the leadership space.
