DAILY HOPE DEVOTIONAL: MAY 10 POWER OF KINDNESS (3) SCRIPTURE: COL. 3: 12; PROV. 23: 6 – 7
Our last devotional on this topic will show us few facts about how powerful kindness is in our world. It has power to change many people’s hearts. It gives honour to those who has it. It is a powerful weapon to soften the hearts of people. Amongst the powerful messages given, and miracles the early Apostles wrought, kindness formed the effective tool of evangelism. In today’s devotional, we will be looking at what some secular scholars and the Bible say about kindness.
A happiness Researcher by name, Sean Achor demonstrated through his extensive research that “if you perform random acts of kindness for two minutes a day for twenty-one days, you can actually retrain your brain to be more positive.” This explains that kindness builds up the positive mind of the kindhearted person. The same Author says that “kindness is a simple concept, yet so impactful. It can make the world a better place by ending suffering at the hands of war, hunger, human rights violations, and injustice.” It then means to impact on the world so as to be free of war, hunger, human rights violations and injustices everyone has to be kind to each other.
Another writer, Scott Adams, says: “Remember, there’s no such thing as a small act of kindness. Every act creates a ripple effect with no logical end.” This simply means every act of kindness produces ripple effect continuously. When you show kindness to someone, he/she extends it to another, and another to another in sequences. This quote is corroborated by one Amelia Earhart with a clearer presentation. Amelia Earhart says: “No kind action ever stops with itself. One kind action leads to another. Good example is followed. A single act of kindness throws out roots in all directions, and the roots spring up and make new trees. The greatest work that kindness does is that it makes them kind themselves.”
Having known these things about kindness, Christians are to pursue kindness, give out kindness without grudges. If we give out kindness in grudges, the kind gesture will turn to bitterness. People run away from such a person. Christians in being kind should be with heart of passion, kindness, humility, and gentleness (Col. 3: 12), in every work of kindness rendered to people. The view of one writer, Dalai Lama, on kindness; inform readers of this devotional how powerful it is. Dalai Lama said: “An honest concern for others is the key factor in improving our day to day lives. When you are warm-hearted, there will be no room for anger, jealousy or insecurity. Healthy, happy families and a healthy peaceful nation are dependent on warm-heartedness.” Kindness will really remold this world of apathy to paradise of peace, love, security and brotherliness. Amen!
