Hon. Cyril Hails Speaker Abass Insightful Initiative at Enunciating  8-Points Agenda to Compliment Efforts of the Executive Arm

The Hon. Member representing Degema/Bonny Federal Constituency, Rivers State( Chairman, House Committee on Monitoring, Evaluation of  Implementation of Legislative Agenda), Hon. Cyril Godwin Hart has extolled the  transformational and visionary leadership of His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Speaker, Tajudeen Abbas, PhD,GCON. Says the Speaker must be applauded for his insightful initiative in enunciating an 8-point Agenda for the 10th House as a Roadmap in complementing the efforts of the Executive Arm in navigating the nation out of turbulent waters, to the safe shores of national economic prosperity.

Hon. Cyril who make the statement at the House of Representatives inaugural national policy dialogue held today at Transcorp Hilton, Abuja when giving his opening remark where he notes that the  transformational and visionary leadership of His Excellency the Rt. Hon. Speaker, Tajudeen Abbas, PhD, (GCON) must be applauded for his insightful initiative.

“It is on this note that the transformational and visionary leadership of His Excellency the Rt. Hon. Speaker, Tajudeen Abbas, PhD, (GCON) must be applauded for his insightful initiative in enunciating an 8-point Agenda for the 10th House as a Roadmap in complementing the efforts of the Executive Arm in navigating the nation out of turbulent waters, to the safe shores of national economic prosperity.

“The wisdom in the enunciation of the Legislative Agenda is truly uncommon, and their impacts, in terms of quality legislative outputs, are commendable.”

Speaking on the National Policy Dialogue, he noted “The strategic collaboration of some leading global institutions in our democratic and development space in hosting this Inaugural National Dialogue on the Legislative Agenda of the House of Representatives, and the sterling profiles of the highly selected and distinguished speakers, panelists and attendees underscore the relevance of this National Dialogue as a historic event that provides a veritable platform for the robust articulation, analysis and appraisal of parliamentary activities, towards a peaceful, prosperous, stable and sustainable Nation.

“The Legislative Agenda of the 10th House, surely green-flags the House of Representatives (the Green Chambers) as the People’s House, the beacon and bastion of our democracy, as it heralds a new era of purposeful alignment with global parliamentary best practices, benchmarked by the key indicators of strategic focus, measurable impact and parliamentary audit.”

“The 10th House was confronted at Inauguration, with an array of critical national challenges on several fronts and sundry fields, which includes the economy, security, environment, education, service delivery, and corruption. And the need for the adoption of a model; business-unusual approach in tandem with global best practices in repositioning the Parliament towards restoring citizens’ confidence and delivering on its mandate, became a National imperative.

“A cursory glance at the 8 Points Legislative Agenda reveals their aptness to the nation’s critical challenges and capacity for national transformation.

Said the 8-points Agenda which includes strengthening good governance, improving national security, law reform, economic growth and development,social sector reform and development, inclusion and open parliament (which is the essence of this National Dialogue),influencing and directing foreign policy and,climate Change and environmental sustainability is not just recognized as a Mantra of the House but a contract with the Nigerian people, as all Committees and Honourable Members are expected to mainstream same in their legislative activities and are rated based on level of compliance with the Agenda and as well validates the decision of the Honorable Speaker in constituting a Standing Committee on Monitoring and Evaluation of Implementation of Legislative Agenda.

“Today, we are here not just to commemorate the Mid-Term of the Legislative Agenda but to launch an Inaugural National Dialogue on the Legislative Agenda of the House, to be instituted as an annual event.

“While we look forward to the successful hosting of the Annual National Dialogues in the coming years, it is significant to announce that the Committee on Monitoring and Evaluation of Implementation of Legislative Agenda has in line with its mandate lined up a number of strategic Roundtables on the different thematic areas of the Legislative Agenda.

“Last year, the Committee, among other engagements, successfully hosted a National Roundtable on the State of the Economy and the Diversification Agenda with special focus on Green, Blue and Digital Economy. The fruits of these patriotic engagements are beginning to manifest.

“Presently, the Committee is in the process of organizing a Global Roundtable on Nigeria’s Energy Transition with a special focus on Gas Revolution-“My Gas, My Everything”

“We acknowledge with profound appreciation the collaborative partnership and support of relevant stakeholders, particularly the Leadership of the House, our sister Standing Committees, MDAs, Development Partners in assisting us execute our patriotic mandates and look forward to further collaborations in this regard.

“Let me conclude this Remarks by saying that the First-Half of the Legislative Agenda has been quite eventful and impactful. I believe that working together as a team, the Second-Half would be phenomenal.” He said
