National Policy Dialogue Marks New Era for Nigerian Legislature – Deputy Speaker Kalu

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda has redefined Nigeria’s developmental trajectory through bold reforms.

 

The Deputy Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, CON has described the inaugural national policy dialogue on the legislative Agenda of the House of Representatives as a historical marks of new era for Nigerian legislature; highlighted the House’s impressive legislative output, with over 1,059 bills considered since June 13, 2023, spanning various facets of national life.

The Deputy Speaker in his welcome remarks at the ongoing inaugural national policy dialogue, Transcorp Hilton Abuja acknowledged the inspiring leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu whose Renewed Hope Agenda has redefined Nigeria’s developmental trajectory, says the inaugural national policy dialogue on the legislative Agenda of the House marks the new era for Nigerian legislature.

Recalling the House inauguration of the National Policy Dialogue on its Legislative Agenda which brought together policymakers, lawmakers, academia, civil society, and development partners, said the event which aimed to present and discuss the House’s Legislative Agenda for the current Assembly is historical and a significant milestone in the nation’s democratic journey.

Speaking on the eight-pillar Legislative Agenda, Kalu said is  structured to support the President’s eight-point plan, includes Good Governance & Anti-Corruption, National Security, Social Sector Development, Inclusive & Open Parliament, Economic Growth & Diversification, Fiscal Federalism & Resource Control, Environmental Sustainability, and Law Reform & Constitutional Review.

The Deputy Speaker commended Speaker Abbas Tajudeen for orchestrating this legislative surge and praised Hon. Cyril Hart Godwin and Hon. Chinwe Nnabuife Clara for rigorously monitoring its implementation.

The National Policy Dialogue according to the Deputy Speaker aims to enhance visibility and understanding of the Legislative Agenda, integrate stakeholder inputs, fortify partnerships for evidence-based policymaking, and promote transparency and inclusiveness in lawmaking.

He argued “With the support of partners such as the European Union, British High Commission, UK International Development, PLAC, and the National Assembly Library Trust Fund, the House is poised to deliver tangible policy wins and transform the nation through bold legislation.”

“As the Dialogue concludes, stakeholders expect to see enhanced collaboration, policy briefs, and recommendations to inform legislative interventions, ultimately securing a future of shared prosperity and enduring democratic strength for Nigeria.” He said.
