Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a woman, Ihensekhien Miracle Obehi, at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Rivers State, while attempting to smuggle a large quantity of cocaine to Iran.
According to a statement released on Sunday by the NDLEA’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, the suspect was apprehended on May 3, 2025, at the airport’s departure hall while trying to board a Qatar Airways flight to Iran via Doha.
Obehi, who disguised herself in an hijab in a bid to evade security scrutiny, was found with cocaine concealed in her private parts, her stomach, and the false bottom of her handbag.
The statement read, “During her search, she was found to have inserted three wraps of cocaine in her private part, and two large parcels hidden in false compartments of her handbag while she swallowed 67 pellets of the Class A drug.
“As a result, she was placed under excretion observation and after four excretions that lasted days, she expelled the 67 wraps of the substance in her stomach.”
Babafemi explained that Obehi claimed that she was to swallow 70 pellets of cocaine, but after ingesting 67 pieces, she could no longer swallow the remaining three and decided to insert them into her private parts.
He added that the total weight of the three consignments hidden in different parts of her body comes to 2.523 kilogrammes.
