In a significant legislative milestone, the Senator representing Ondo North Senatorial District in the 10th Senate, Sen. Jide Ipinsagba has expressed deep satisfaction following the successful passage of his bill establishing the Federal University of Information and Communication Technology, Ondo State. The bill, which passed its third reading in the Senate, marks an epoch step toward expanding information and communication technology education in the country.
Speaking to reporters in his office, Senator Jide stated, “Yes, I feel good, just like any other day, because whatever God has done, no man can push it aside. It is the Lord’s doing, and it is marvellous in the eyes of all of us — especially the people of Ikare, Akoko, and Ondo North Senatorial District.”
The proposed university will focus on specialized training in ICT fields, a move the Senator believes will not only benefit Ondo State but also set a precedent in West Africa. “This is going to be one of its kind — a specialized university that will add value to our education sector,” he said.
Senator Jide dismissed concerns about lobbying for executive assent, said “Mr. President is passionate about education and supports the establishment of more universities. So I strongly believe not much lobbying will be needed.”
Addressing concerns over land availability for the proposed university, the Senator was confident. “Ikare has a very big expanse of land that can accommodate the university. Ondo State is big enough, and we’ve considered all those factors before pushing the bill.”
Emphasizing the inclusive nature of the institution, Sen. Jide Ipinsagba notes that access will not be limited by economic class. “There’s no nexus between the establishment of the university and whether someone is rich or poor. Admission will follow the normal procedure, just like any other institution.”
As the bill awaits concurrence from the House of Representatives and eventual presidential approval, the people of Ondo State, particularly from Ikare Akoko region, are celebrating a legislative win with the potential to transform the region’s educational and economic future.
Senator Jide Ipinsagba has indeed make a mark in the annal of legislative history bringing effectiveness and efficiency to bare in the representation of his senatorial district and we await concurrence from the House of Representatives and subsequent assent by Mr. President.
