Abuja, Nigeria — The management of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Abuja, has responded to a widely circulated online video that portrayed the hospital’s emergency unit in a negative light. In a preliminary statement released today, the hospital addressed concerns raised by the footage and reassured the public of its commitment to quality healthcare and transparency.

According to the statement signed by the hospital’s Public Relations Officer, Obadiah N.K. Gana, initial investigations have contradicted several claims made in the video. “Our preliminary findings show that the emergency department was adequately stocked with medical supplies, including latex gloves, and there was no shortage of resuscitation equipment or patient transfer tools such as trolleys and wheelchairs,” the statement read.

The video, which has sparked concern on social media, prompted immediate action from health authorities. Dr. Iziaq Adekunle Salako, the Honourable Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, has ordered a full investigation into the matter. FMC Abuja confirmed that the findings of this probe will be made public once the inquiry is concluded.

The hospital emphasized that it remains committed to patient welfare, noting ongoing interactions with staff and stakeholders to ensure all facts are accurately captured.

FMC Abuja highlighted its open-door policy and multiple feedback channels for patients, including hotline numbers, QR codes, and dedicated email addresses. “We take all feedback seriously and are constantly working to improve our services,” the statement noted.

Beyond emergency care, the facility is known for offering advanced medical procedures rarely available in public hospitals, such as open-heart surgery, kidney transplants, and spine surgery. The hospital also runs a medical indigent fund to support financially disadvantaged patients.

“We sincerely apologize for any distress caused by this incident and reaffirm our dedication to providing compassionate, high-quality care,” the statement concluded.

The public is encouraged to await the outcome of the investigation, as the hospital continues its efforts to uphold trust and transparency in service delivery.
