DAILY HOPE DEVOTIONAL: AUGUST 6 YOU ARE NOT WHO YOU THINK (2) SCRIPTURE: JUDGES 6: 14: 1 Samuel 9: 20 – 21

Spread the love

As seen in yesterday devotional about Gideon, many of us might have lost our destinies due to how we thought of who we are. The greatest harm any human being could do to self is thinking negatively about self all the time. For Gideon he thought his tribe is the weakest of Manasseh tribe, and himself as the least in his family. Thanks be to God who spoke confidence into him, through His angel in Judges 6: 14 saying: “Go in this might of yours, and you shall save Israel from the hand of the Midianites. Have I not sent you?” Such was the story of Saul who thought of himself and family like Gideon before he became King over Israel. In 1 Samuel 9: 20 – 21, Prophet Samuel saw Saul as one whom all the desire of Israel is upon as well as upon his father’s house. But Saul replied the Prophet how wrong the Prophet was by saying so. Saul believed he belonged to the Benjamin tribe which is the smallest tribe in Israel, and his family been the least. Therefore, he would not be considered a King over Israel.

The beloved in Christ, perhaps you have rejected position given you on the bases of not being competent. It could be refusing to aspire to become prominent person because none in your family ever made it to that level by the family’s history. You could belong to the group of men who remain unmarried by thinking they have no money to take care of wives. My reply to you all is, those thoughts are yours and not that which God sees you to be. Here is my brief story of how I was to ruin my destiny. I started growing up in a family highly respected by all. We are considered brilliant people, honest people and bold. But as a last born, I came when my mum and dad had grown too old and their wealth had gone. I started seeing things not working for me. I became obsessed to aspiring to greatness. I refused to follow friends discuss about owning motorbikes which was a first sign of making it in life then.

The thinking of not being like others followed me till I graduated from Polytechnic with Ordinary Diploma and Higher National Diploma. I got a job with a prominent Newsmagazine in Lagos. I was latter pulled down to my State to work with the State’s Newspapers. But I never had money for marriage. In 1995 I discovered I was to marry. Thought of poverty caused me nightmares. The statute of my wife-to-be gave me fear too. I told my General Overseer I was quitting the plan. But he encouraged me to go on. I had just N250 (Nigeria money) when I was to go for introduction. The end of the matter was I ended up having the most successful wedding then. Today, I would have missed the great honour God is giving me in the marriage. Today, all hopelessness and emptiness in my thoughts have become history. Please I urge anyone in desperate situation not to think self as unworthy and not-up-to others. Trust God. He will bring you to your true destiny.

PRAYER:

Pray and ask God to kill every grasshopper mentality, killing your zeal to pursue goals in life. Ask God to build your mind positively and gives you determination to aspire to glorious statute in life.

POSITIVE DECLARATION:

I am not worthless; I am not a total failure. I am such an incredible success in the name of Jesus Christ.
