The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has issued a formal statement following an incident involving veteran Nigerian musician, King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as K1 De Ultimate, at the domestic terminal of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.

The altercation took place on Tuesday, August 5th, during the boarding process for ValueJet Airlines Flight VK 201 to Lagos. According to FAAN’s preliminary findings contained in a press release e-signed by Agency’s Director, Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Mrs Obiagele Orah reveals that the musician attempted to bring an unidentified liquid substance onboard, a move that contravenes established aviation security regulations.

Under Nigeria’s National Civil Aviation Security Programme (NCASP) and international aviation rules (ICAO Annex 17), passengers are prohibited from carrying liquids exceeding 100ml through security checkpoints unless medically required and properly declared. Despite multiple warnings from Aviation Security (AVSEC) officers and the flight captain, the passenger allegedly refused to comply.

The release further revealed that the situation escalated when the artist reportedly poured the contents of a flask later confirmed to be alcohol on an airline security officer who had requested further clarification. The flight captain’s attempts to de-escalate were also met with resistance, prompting her to close the aircraft doors after confirming boarding was complete.

Refusing to vacate the boarding area, the musician was eventually escorted away by the AVSEC Crime Unit. He was later released pending further investigation.

In the press release, FAAN emphasized its zero-tolerance stance on any behavior that compromises safety or disrupts airport operations, regardless of the public status of the individuals involved.

“The Authority will not tolerate any actions that compromise operational integrity or undermine aviation safety standards,” said Mrs. Obiageli Orah, FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection.

The incident remains under investigation, and FAAN assured the public that any individuals found culpable will be held accountable in accordance with the law.
