DAILY HOPE DEVOTIONAL: August 14 Topic: ANGELIC VISITATION TO JOSHUA (2) Scriptures: Joshua 5: 13 – 15; 6: 1 – 8
This topic is a continuation of what we started yesterday. By the grace of God, today is the concluding part.
Joshua took the responsibility of the conflict between the Israelites and the Canaanites’ armies on his shoulder, but after being confronted by the divine commander, he reminded himself of a truth he heard from Moses many years earlier; when they stood on the bank of the Red Sea, “The Lord will fight for you, you need only to be still” (Exod. 14: 13b). What a comfort and how encouraging to know that we never have to bear our burden alone or face our enemies alone. Our battles in life and ministry are purely God’s conflict. What is our part? We are soldiers in His army, His servant for whom He abundantly supplies the armor of God.
Are you a Pastor of a church and the burden of the ministry seemed heavier than you could bear? Are you crushed by the weight of the frustrations and problems of the work? I counsel you today in the name of the Lord of host, don’t carry the responsibilities alone, turn the ministry over to the Lord who gave you the assignment; it is His work. Just accept God’s leadership, to serve Him, to do His will, to follow Him and depend on Him completely. In verse 15, is found: “And the captain of the Lord’s host said to Joshua, “Remove your sandals from your feet, for the place where you are standing is holy”. And Joshua did so. Removing the sandals was a sign of servanthood and sign of respect and submission. We can only enter into the battles and experience God’s deliverance when we remove our sandals and submit to His authority and His presence and power.
Here we see that the warfare of the Christian is a holy calling, but also a divine undertaking accomplished in those who humble themselves under the mighty hands of God. In 1 Pet. 5: 6 – 7, the Bible reads: “Humble yourselves, therefore under the mighty hand of God, that He May exalt you at the proper time. Casting all your anxiety upon Him, because He cares for you”. Joshua had an encounter with the divinity, it was that encounter that lifted the great burden from his shoulder. All we need to experience a turnaround in our life and ministry is an encounter with the divinity. May God grant us the privilege in Jesus Name.
Prayer point:
My Father and my God, grant me the grace to accept your leadership, to serve you, to do your will, and to depend on you completely.
Confession:
My battles in life are purely God’s conflict, I am a soldier in His army, and He will abundantly supply the armor.
