DAILY HOPE DEVOTIONAL: AUGUST 30 LESSONS FROM TOUCHING THE UNTOUCHABLES (1) SCRIPTURE: LUKE 5: 12; MARK 5: 27 – 28; Lev. 15: 19 – 22
Devotionals of 28th and 29th August revealed how Jesus Christ touched some people who were categorized as “untouchables” by their people. The leper cannot be touched because the Jewish law said so. The blind man cannot be touched because of his worthless-statute. As a blind man, more so, being blind from birth, he passed for one with bad omen. The Young dead man cannot be touched by Jesus because Jesus is an anointed Priest who ought not to have touched a dead person. The woman with the issue of blood, by Jewish law supposed not to have touched Jesus. No man adult touches a woman while menstruating (Lev. 15: 19 – 22). All these events have their unique lessons for us Christians. Some of us fall into any of these cases. The major lesson is that Jesus can touch us in whatever state we find ourselves in life. The world may declare us untouchables, yet going to Jesus will turn us from untouchables to touchables.
Today’s devotional picked on the story of the leper and that of the woman with the issue of blood, in driving home the point that as many times as we have the willingness to approach Jesus and ask Him for healing He will touch us. The leper went to Jesus, fell to the ground at His front and said: “Lord if you are willing, you can make me clean” (Luke 5: 12 NIV). The woman with the issue of blood moved to where she could touch Jesus. She is reported thus: “…she came up behind Him in the crowd and touched His cloak, because she thought, if I just touch His clothes, I will be healed” (Mark 5: 27-28 NIV). These two people have terrible diseases. Their stories were well known among the people. Still, they developed faith and courage to meet Jesus in the public. They exhibited modesty, humility and faith to get themselves healed.
Miracles cannot locate whoever hide his or her sickness at home crying and agonizing. Many of us reading this devotional today might have been going about with a so called “shameful disease or sickness. You are spending fortunes to heal yourself secretly, this will not work. Go to any living church and show yourself to Jesus with faith. Both the woman with the issue of blood and the leper failed many times in treating themselves. However, their boldness in meeting Jesus changed their woes to praises. Many drugs had touched their diseases to no avail till they met one with real touch. Jesus alone has the “touch of reality.”
Today, you are encouraged to go to Jesus for His touch that heals. Where men failed, Jesus succeeded. What is not possible for men is blessedly possible with God. The beloved, let enough be enough of hiding your diseases and sicknesses. *Go to Jesus and God. Only Jesus and God have the “straightway” healing hands. Apart from shameful diseases and sicknesses, shameful conditions of living will not resist the “touch of reality of Jesus.” Go, please go now!!
PRAYER:
LORD JESUS CHRIST, I throw myself at your feet today for your touch of healing, I know you are willing to cleanse me of all shameful diseases.
POSITIVE CONFESSION:
I take hold of boldness and faith today to end my shameful situation as I meet Jesus for healing.
