INEC Reports Over 4.4 Million Online Voter Pre-Registrations in Four Weeks

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that more than 4.4 million Nigerians have pre-registered online in the ongoing nationwide voter registration exercise, with youths and students making up the majority of applicants.

In a press release e-signed by National Commissioner and Chairman, Information & Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, mni, and make available to media on Monday, September 15, 2025, the Commission revealed that as of Sunday, September 14, a total of 4,445,505 Nigerians had pre-registered online within just four weeks of the exercise, which commenced on August 18.

Breaking down the figures, INEC said 2,141,294 (48.17%) of registrants are male, while 2,304,211 (51.83%) are female. The youth demographic remains dominant, as 2,924,643 (65.79%) are between the ages of 18 and 34, with 1,112,344 (25.02%) identified as students.

On completed registrations—covering both online pre-registration and physical in-person capture—the Commission reported that 509,929 voters have finalized the process as of Friday, September 12. Of this number, 229,758 (45.06%) are male and 280,171 (54.94%) are female. Again, young people account for the majority, with 378,132 (74.15%) between ages 18 and 34, while 196,529 (38.54%) are students.

Providing further clarification, INEC stated:

“The detailed distribution of both online and completed registrations by state, gender, age, occupation and disability have been uploaded to our website and other official platforms for public information.”

On the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), the Commission reminded residents that online voter pre-registration ended on Monday, September 15. For the next two weeks, physical registration will continue at designated venues, before being devolved to all 62 Wards in the FCT between September 29 and October 8, 2025.

“Detailed addresses of the centres have already been uploaded to our official platforms,” the statement added.
