DAILY HOPE DEVOTIONAL: OCTOBER 2 GOD OF SECRETS (2) SCRIPTURE: Psa. 90: 8; Prov. 15: 11; Jer. 16: 17-18; 17: 10
As an introduction, we learnt yesterday that every secret thing we do is seen or can be revealed by God. There is no need hiding in secret places doing things. Even those with gifts of discerning secrets are not as perfect as our Almighty God in seeing secret things. Today’s devotional sees doing things in secrets by human beings as greatest folly and self-deceptions. This is because, before the mind conceives evil things, God has seen all. God told Prophet Jeremiah that He, God searches the heart and examines the mind of people (Jer. 17: 10). It is really an exercise of folly conceiving evil thoughts, planning wrong things and executing them in secrets with a conviction that both man and God are not seeing. We as Christians should know that the judgment of evil things people do is completed at the inception of the thoughts and not after the actions are carried out. What we get after committing the evil thoughts is reward.
There is no need going to hidden places committing atrocities, thinking the actions will not be known. The Bible says that God sets our sins and wrong-doings before Him, and our secret sins are within the light of His face (Psa. 90: 8). The grave is deep and covered with the earth, the secret places where destructions are carried out can be in the skies, yet the Bible says: – “Hell and destruction are before the LORD: how much more then, the hearts of the children of men?” (Prov. 15: 11). God has severally in time past, exposed serious crimes committed in secrets and He still does same today. Why then do human beings continuously involve themselves in evils at secret places? King David said God knows his folly and his guilt is not hidden from God (Psa. 69: 5). It will be good if all human beings know what King David knew here.
The church of God should not shy away from telling the world this truth that no matter the years secret things are heinously carried out, God will reveal them and the culprits. These days, God has made law enforcement agents to discover people killed in secrets, properties set ablaze secretly and children stolen and sold secretly, but the secrets were reveals when not expected. Why should we continue stealing in secrets thinking man and God are not seeing? The greatest folly of doing things in secret lies with the Christians who are comfortable indulging in all kinds of evils. The Bible says this: “I am watching them closely, and I see every sin. They cannot hope to hide from me. I will double their punishment for all their sins…” (Jer. 16: 17-18 Africa Study Bible). Brethren, can we now be wise to drop all our secret sins? God will surely reward through punishments!
PRAYERS:
1. FATHER, secret sins are in multiplication these days. Please forgive the world because of the shed Blood of Jesus your Son for the sins of the world. Amen.
2. LORD JESUS CHRIST, the Bible says there is no forgiveness of every willful sin committed. But the Bible says too that if your Father is mindful of our sins, who can stand. Kindly appeal to God to forgive Christians their sins.
