DAILY HOPE DEVOTIONAL: OCTOBER 8 SPIRITUAL LIFE IN THE HOME (1) SCRIPTURE: JOHN 14: 15-16; 16: 13
It is no longer shocking news on hearing that a boy or girl of a Pastor or a General Overseer leaves Christianity and went back to the world. Christian homes and churches have witnessed serious departure of Youths from following the God their parents are serving for other gods.The churches are searching for possible solutions all the while. This devotional looks into the role of the Holy Spirit in handling the case as very critical. Christians’ homes contain people with different behaviours that discerning them with natural wisdom could be hard. Our Lord Jesus said the Spirit He will send into the Church and upon individual Christians will be saddled, amongst other things, with the responsibility of teaching the truth.
In families, there are about four behaviours the Bible mentioned, that can only be discerned by the help of the Holy Spirit, who sees the minds of people as clearly as possible. So fathers and mothers ought to depend on the Holy Spirit to discern and discipline their wards properly. In Prov. 1: 5, the Bible talks of a wise who hears and increase in learning. The Bible in Prov. 12: 15 talks of the way a fool that sees things right in his or her own eyes. We have another behaviour which Prov. 1: 22 talks about two characters which is the simple and the scorner.
We must know that these behaviours are found in the lives of our children early enough. Lacking in the unction of the Holy Spirit, the teacher, the helper and revealer of truths to Christians discovering these traits will be difficult. In quick explanations, we will see how these behaviours are in our lives. The wise ones in the home hear the Biblical teachings, understand them and use them to increase in learning. The simple ones will hear the Word of God as many times as possible but don’t know what the Words mean to them. The fools will hear the messages but after few minutes forget all that is said. The scorners are opposers of the words of God. They hate anything God. Fathers and mothers having these behaviours in their homes need the assistance of the Holy Spirit to spiritually hold the homes for God.
TAKE ACTION:
Look into your home in the mind and see who has each of these behaviours in the realm of your Spirit. Can you discern the wise, the simple, the fools and the scorers? Ask the Holy Spirit in prayer to show you how to attend to their cases.
