The story of Andrew Carnegie and Michael Faraday studied in yesterday’s devotional could be motivational enough to tell everyone that no condition is strong enough to cage anyone’s destiny. Today’s devotional is discussing one Nigeria man, who at the time of his death had received 197 traditional titles from different communities in Nigeria; he had also constructed 63 secondary schools, 121 Mosques and Churches. Besides these, he built 41 libraries, sponsored 21 water projects in 21 States in Nigeria. He had conglomeration of companies established through personal funding. This person was Chief M.K.O. Abiola. King M.K.O. Abiola seemed to be working with Habakkuk 3: 19 which says: “The Sovereign Lord is my strength! He makes me as sure-footed as a deer, able to tread upon the heights” (Africa Study Bible).

Chief M.K.O. Abiola’s achievements were typical stories of one who dared obstacles or limitations in life to climb to heights of fame. Chief Abiola can be said to be one who knew how to dance in the storm so as to achieve greatness fitting into one Israelmore’s quote which says: – “You can dance in the storm. Don’t wait for the rain to be over, because it might take too long.” King M.K.O. Abiola really danced in the storm of poverty and built himself into a powerful world attested billionaire. King Abiola was born on 24th August 1937 as 23rd child of his parent and was the only survived child as others died at infancy. At age 9, he had started hustling for money by selling firewood to take care of his school fees. He formed native music band at 15 years. He used the proceeds of the music band to feed himself, the members of the band and his father and mother.

Against the mighty poverty which stood before Abiola, he kept laboring and training self in schools. By 1956 he had become Bank Clerk with the then Barclay’s Bank. In 1959, he became an Executive Accountant in the Western Region Finance Corporation. Abiola kept making the life he designed for himself. He would later move to Glasgow in Scotland for further studying. There, he received “First Class” in Political Economy, Commercial Law and Management in Accounting. He attended Institute of Chartered Accountants in Glasgow and passed with “Distinction”. Others of M.K.O. Abiola’s achievements included establishment of Habib Bank, Concord Press, Radio Communication, Wonder Batteries Company, Abiola Concord Airlines etc. He would have not achieved all these if he failed to make life the ways he wants for himself. Readers of this devotional can make their own worlds too against whatever seems to be an obstacle before them. Chief M.K.O. Abiola’s pursuit of life fits into one Charles Darwin’s word: “A man who dares to waste one hour of time has not discovered the value of life.” The passage in Phil. 4: 13 here seem to be the motivational power of Abiola. It says: I have strength for all things in Christ who empowers me, I am ready for anything and equal to anything through whom who infuses inner strength into me, that is, I am self sufficient in Christ’s sufficiency… (Amplified Bible). The Beloved, you can make it in this life.
