The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, on Friday inaugurated a 137-member National Campaign Council to spearhead the party’s efforts ahead of the 2026 Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Councils Elections.
The inauguration ceremony, held at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja, signaled the party’s formal entry into what it described as a strategic political contest requiring unity, coordination, and aggressive grassroots mobilisation across the six area councils of the FCT.
Speaking at the event, Prof. Yilwatda described the forthcoming election as a critical test for the party, stressing the need for inclusive participation and cohesive leadership.
“This party is your home. We must open the space for inclusive participation and provide leadership that attracts Nigerians from every corner,” he said.
The APC chairman commended members of the campaign council for accepting the responsibility to serve, noting that their appointment reflected the party’s confidence in their loyalty and capacity to deliver victory.
He further disclosed that the party has continued to witness an influx of members from other political platforms, a development he described as a clear sign of growing national acceptance and confidence in the APC.
Prof. Yilwatda however recalled that during the last general election, the party lost a key area to the Social Democratic Party (SDP), adding that the 2026 Area Council polls present an opportunity to reclaim lost ground and consolidate APC’s dominance in the FCT.
According to him, the campaign council will focus on two core objectives which are massive voter mobilisation and the deployment of well-articulated strategies to secure victory on election day.
He explained that the composition of the council reflects Nigeria’s geopolitical diversity, emphasizing that Abuja is home to residents from all parts of the country.
Leaders from the South-South, South-East, North-Central, North-East and North-West, he noted, have been strategically assigned to mobilise residents from their respective regions residing in the FCT.
“The FCT belongs to all Nigerians. If we execute our strategies effectively and work as one united party, victory is assured,” he stated confidently.

In his acceptance speech, Governor AbdulRazaq pledged to deliver victory for the party, assuring that the council would intensify grassroots mobilisation and strengthen party structures across the FCT.
He thanked Prof. Yilwatda and the party leadership for the confidence reposed in the council, promising that members would work tirelessly to secure success at the polls.
The inauguration which drew attendance from party chieftains, members of the National Working Committee, governors and other key stakeholders, underscores APC’s determination to mount a formidable campaign for the 2026 FCT Area Councils Elections.
