President and Chief Executive of Dangote Industries Limited, Aliko Dangote, on Saturday hosted the Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Limited, Bayo Ojulari, alongside other senior executives of the national oil company, during a high-level visit to the Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals in Lekki, Lagos.
The visit marked a significant moment in the evolving relationship between Africa’s largest private refinery and Nigeria’s national energy company, underscoring growing collaboration aimed at strengthening domestic refining capacity, enhancing energy security, and reducing reliance on imported petroleum products.
Dangote personally received the NNPC delegation and conducted them on a tour of the sprawling refinery complex, showcasing its state-of-the-art facilities, operational units, and integrated petrochemical infrastructure. The engagement provided an opportunity for both organisations to review operational progress, discuss supply chain integration, and explore areas of mutual benefit.
Speaking during the visit, Dangote reaffirmed the refinery’s commitment to supporting Nigeria’s energy independence and contributing to economic growth.
“Our vision has always been to support Nigeria and Africa by ensuring a reliable supply of refined petroleum products, reducing import dependence, and strengthening the nation’s industrial base,” Dangote said
He emphasised that the refinery, widely regarded as the largest single-train refinery in the world, is designed to meet domestic demand while also positioning Nigeria as a major exporter of refined petroleum products.
In his remarks, Ojulari commended Dangote Industries Limited for its landmark investment and described the refinery as a transformational asset for Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.
Hypenews Reports gathered that “This facility represents a major milestone for Nigeria and demonstrates the critical role of private sector investment in advancing national energy security and industrial development,” Ojulari said.
He noted that NNPC Limited remains committed to working closely with Dangote Petroleum Refinery and other stakeholders to ensure stable crude oil supply, optimise refining output, and guarantee the availability of petroleum products for Nigerians.
The visit also provided a platform for strategic discussions on deepening cooperation between the national oil company and the privately-owned refinery, particularly in the areas of crude oil supply arrangements, logistics optimisation, and long-term energy sustainability.
Industry analysts view the growing engagement between Dangote Industries Limited and NNPC Limited as essential to the success of Nigeria’s refining renaissance, especially at a time when the country is intensifying efforts to conserve foreign exchange, stabilise fuel supply, and enhance value addition within the domestic oil and gas sector.
The Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals is expected to play a pivotal role in reshaping Nigeria’s downstream sector by significantly reducing fuel imports, supporting job creation, and positioning the country as a regional refining hub.
Saturday’s visit reinforces the strategic importance of collaboration between public and private sector players in driving Nigeria’s ambition for energy self-sufficiency and long-term economic resilience.
