Kankia Calls Nigerians to Support Tinubu’s ongoing economic reforms

The National Legal Adviser of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Barrister Murtala Aliyu Kankia, has called on Nigerians to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s ongoing economic reforms while demanding measurable results, transparency and accountability from those in government.
Kankia made the call in his Eld-el-Maulud message to Muslims, saying the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) on justice, compassion, honesty, consultation and responsible leadership should guide both political leaders and citizens as Nigeria confronts its economic and security challenges.
The APC National Legal Adviser said the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Tinubu administration should remain focused on policies capable of improving citizens’ welfare, strengthening the economy, expanding infrastructure, creating opportunities and enhancing security.
He urged Nigerians to assess government policies on the basis of their impact on ordinary citizens rather than partisan considerations, stressing that support for reforms should go hand in hand with the demand for accountability.
According to him, the reforms being implemented by the Tinubu administration are aimed at repositioning the Nigerian economy and laying the foundation for sustainable growth, but government must continually demonstrate how such policies are translating into tangible improvements in the lives of citizens.
“Leadership is a responsibility, not merely a privilege. The Renewed Hope Agenda must continue to be driven by policies that improve the lives of Nigerians, while those in government must remain accountable to the people,” Kankia said.
He called on Nigerians to support efforts to strengthen the economy, expand infrastructure, improve education and skills development, enhance security and deepen social protection, while encouraging constructive criticism wherever government policies require improvement.
Kankia also urged political leaders to draw from the example of Prophet Muhammad as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He appealed to political parties, aspirants and their supporters to make the elections a contest of ideas, policies, records and capacity to deliver, rather than one driven by ethnic, religious or inflammatory sentiments.
The APC legal adviser cautioned politicians against placing personal ambition above national interest, urging them to pursue their political aspirations within the framework of the law and democratic institutions.
He equally called on religious leaders to use their platforms to promote peaceful coexistence, responsible citizenship and national unity, while discouraging hate speech, violence and political manipulation.
Kankia particularly warned young Nigerians against allowing themselves to be used as instruments of political violence, urging them instead to participate actively and peacefully in the democratic process.
He also called on Muslims to pray for President Tinubu, other national leaders and the peace and progress of Nigeria, saying the country’s challenges require collective responsibility and sustained commitment to national development.
The APC National Legal Adviser said the lessons of Eid-ul-Mawlid should extend beyond the celebration, with Nigerians embracing justice, tolerance, compassion, patriotism and service to humanity.
“As we celebrate Eid-ul-Mawlid, let us remember that leadership is service. We must continue to support what is good for Nigeria, demand accountability where necessary, and place the national interest above personal and political ambition,” he said.
Kankia felicitated the Muslim Ummah on the occasion and prayed for peace, prosperity and stability across Nigeria.
He expressed optimism that the country would approach the 2027 elections with greater political maturity, with candidates judged increasingly by their ideas, records and capacity to deliver rather than divisive rhetoric.
He maintained that the ultimate measure of any government or political leadership should be its ability to improve citizens’ welfare and secure a better future for the country.
