Governors Agbu Kefas of Taraba State and Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State, alongside elder statesman, Gen. Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma (rtd), have held a high-level security meeting with the Minister of Defence, Gen. Christopher Gwabin Musa (rtd), at the Federal Ministry of Defence Headquarters in Abuja, as part of efforts to address renewed insurgent activities in the North-East.

The closed-door engagement was convened in response to fresh security concerns in parts of Adamawa State and adjoining communities in Taraba, where authorities say isolated breaches and insurgent movements have raised the need for reinforced federal-state collaboration.

According to a statement issued by the Taraba State Commissioner for Information and Re-Orientation, Barr. Zainab Usman Jalingo, discussions at the meeting focused on strengthening coordinated responses to asymmetric threats through improved intelligence sharing, forward deployment of troops and mobilisation of additional military assets to flashpoint areas.

The stakeholders also reviewed ongoing counter-insurgency operations with a view to recalibrating strategies, closing identified operational gaps and enhancing inter-agency synergy. Community-based security dynamics requiring urgent federal intervention were equally examined during the deliberations.

Governor Kefas reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to safeguarding the territorial integrity of Taraba State and protecting lives and property. He emphasised that subnational governments must continue to work closely with federal defence authorities to dismantle criminal networks and restore normalcy in affected communities.

On his part, Governor Fintiri underscored the need to sustain operational momentum, stressing that proactive field dominance is critical to neutralising emerging threats before they escalate into broader instability.

The meeting signals what officials described as a unified political and security front among critical stakeholders aimed at restoring public confidence, stabilising troubled communities and consolidating peace across Adamawa and Taraba States. Representatives of the Chief of Defence Staff, the Chief of Army Staff and his operational team, members of the Africa Nature Investors (ANI) team, as well as the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, were also in attendance.
