President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated renowned fiscal policy expert, Mr. Taiwo Oyedele, as the new Minister of State for Finance, in a strategic move aimed at deepening ongoing economic and tax reforms in the country.
The nomination, conveyed to the Senate on Tuesday in a letter addressed to Senate President Godswill Akpabio will see Oyedele replace Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite in the Finance Ministry, pending confirmation.
In a related development, Dr. Uzoka-Anite has been redeployed to the Ministry of Budget and National Planning as Minister of State — marking her third ministerial portfolio under the Tinubu administration.
Until his nomination, Oyedele served as Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, where he led a comprehensive overhaul of Nigeria’s tax system, earning recognition for driving reforms aimed at boosting revenue generation and simplifying tax administration.
A native of Ikaram in Akoko, Ondo State, the 50-year-old economist and public policy expert brings over two decades of experience in fiscal policy, taxation, and advisory services. He began his academic journey at Yaba College of Technology, where he earned a Higher National Diploma in Accountancy and Finance, before obtaining a BSc in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University.
Oyedele further strengthened his expertise through executive education programmes at the London School of Economics, Yale University, the Gordon Institute of Business Science and Harvard Kennedy School.
Professionally, he spent 22 years at PricewaterhouseCoopers(PwC), joining in 2001 and rising to become Fiscal Policy Partner and Africa Tax Leader.
Beyond his corporate accomplishments, Oyedele is a professor at Babcock University and serves as a visiting scholar at the Lagos Business School.
His nomination signals the administration’s continued emphasis on fiscal discipline, tax modernization, and economic restructuring as Nigeria navigates ongoing reforms in public finance management.
The Senate is expected to begin consideration of the nomination in the coming days.
