The Ado Local Government Council in Benue State has received the second batch of solar-powered street lights under the administration’s Operation Light Up Ado initiative, as Chairman, Engr. Sunny Oche, moves to expand the lighting project to more communities and strategic locations across the council’s 10 wards.

The development was disclosed in a statement signed by Innocent Igelle, cLMiH, mPPSN, MCAI, Principal Private Secretary to the Chairman, on behalf of the Ado Local Government administration.

The latest consignment follows the successful implementation of the first phase of the project, which focused on major streets and public locations within the local government area.

The administration said the initiative is being implemented in line with the Operation Light Up Benue State programme of Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia (PhD).

According to the statement, the solarisation project is designed not only to illuminate streets but also to improve night-time visibility, strengthen community safety, support evening economic activities and enhance the appearance and functionality of public spaces.

The use of solar-powered lighting, it added, would provide a sustainable alternative to conventional electricity, particularly in areas where regular power supply is unavailable or unreliable.

Oche targets broad coverage

The administration said Oche had directed that the project should achieve broad coverage rather than being concentrated in selected areas.

It said deliberate efforts were being made to ensure that no ward or strategically important location was left behind as subsequent phases of the programme are rolled out.

The council described the approach as consistent with its commitment to inclusive grassroots development, stressing that the benefits of government interventions should be felt across communities regardless of their location.

The statement noted that the arrival and deployment of the second batch represented a tangible step in translating the chairman’s development agenda into visible projects.

“Operation Light Up Ado is gradually moving from a promise to a visible reality, and with the continued commitment of the Local Government administration, the light is set to reach more communities across all ten wards,” the statement said.

The administration said residents could expect additional streets and strategic public locations to be illuminated as subsequent phases of the programme progress.

It added that the project would contribute to making Ado safer, more accessible and more vibrant after dark.

The council commended Chairman Sunny Oche for sustaining the momentum of the initiative and demonstrating consistency in pursuing a programme earlier announced as part of his administration’s development agenda.
