Tinubu Congratulates Benin’s President-Elect Wadagni, Seeks Stronger Bilateral Ties

President Bola Ahmed TINUBU has congratulated Romuald Wadagni on his election as President of the Benin Republic, describing his victory as a reflection of the confidence reposed in him by the Beninese people.

 

The message was conveyed in a statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.

 

Wadagni, who previously served as Benin’s Minister of Finance, secured a decisive victory in the presidential election held on April 12, 2026.

 

In a personally signed letter, President Tinubu praised the peaceful conduct of the election and commended the people of Benin for their commitment to democracy.

 

“Your victory reflects the trust the Beninese people have placed in your vision and your distinguished record of service as Minister of Finance,” Tinubu stated.

 

The Nigerian leader highlighted the long-standing relationship between both countries, noting that Nigeria and Benin share deep historical, cultural, and economic ties.

 

“Our two nations share a long history of friendship, cultural ties, and cooperation. I look forward to working closely with your administration to strengthen our bilateral relations further,” he said.

 

Tinubu also expressed optimism about enhanced collaboration in regional security and economic development within the ECOWAS  sub-region and the African Union.

 

“This transition marks a significant chapter in your nation’s history. I commend the people of Benin for their resilience and commitment to the democratic process,” he added.

 

The President assured Wadagni of Nigeria’s support as he prepares to assume office, wishing him wisdom, strength, and success in leading his country.

 

“You can rest assured of my unstinting support and cooperation,” Tinubu concluded.
