The Federal Government has fully digitised the authentication and evaluation of academic credentials, mandating applicants to process all requests online in a move aimed at boosting transparency, efficiency, and service delivery in Nigeria’s education sector.
The development was announced in a statement issued by Folasade Boriowo, Director of Press and Public Relations at the Federal Ministry of Education, Nigeria.
According to the ministry, the new system is part of broader efforts to align with the Federal Government’s digital transformation agenda, leveraging technology to enhance data integrity, improve record management, and support evidence-based policy decisions.
“With the introduction of the new system, all applications for authentication and evaluation of academic credentials will now be processed strictly online through the Ministry’s official verification portal,” the statement said.
Under the new directive, applicants are required to register and upload relevant documents via the official portal, while their academic transcripts must be sent directly by their institutions to a designated ministry email for verification.
The ministry stressed that physical visits for credential authentication are no longer necessary.
“Applicants are no longer required to visit the Federal Ministry of Education for physical verification, as the entire process will now be conducted electronically,” it added.
Officials say the transition is expected to significantly reduce processing time, simplify procedures, and strengthen the credibility of academic credential verification in Nigeria.
The ministry urged applicants to comply strictly with the new guidelines to ensure seamless processing of their requests, while directing enquiries to its official communication channels.
