NISO Begins Construction of National Control Room to Boost Power Grid Stability

The Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) has flagged off the construction of a new National Control Room at the National Control Centre in Osogbo, Osun State, in a move aimed at strengthening electricity grid management and enhancing nationwide power stability.

 

The project, which commenced with the formal handover of the site to Messrs FBS Construction Engineering Services Limited, is expected to upgrade operational capacity and reinforce the reliability of Nigeria’s power transmission system.

 

According to a statement from the Nigerian Independent System Operator, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Abdu Bello Mohammed, who spoke at the ceremony, urged contractors to uphold the highest standards in execution.

 

“This project requires collaboration, professionalism, and strict adherence to safety and quality requirements,” he said, expressing confidence that the work would be delivered on schedule.

 

Mohammed also tasked management of the National Control Centre with ensuring effective supervision and coordination throughout the construction phase.

 

In her remarks, Executive Director (System Operations), Nafisatu Asabe Ali, described the facility as critical national infrastructure with far-reaching implications for security and economic growth.

 

“The National Control Centre is a vital national asset… this project reflects our commitment to enhancing grid stability and reliability across the country,” she said.

 

She added that the site handover marked not just a procedural step but a renewed commitment to delivering the project with efficiency and purpose.

 

Also speaking, Executive Director (Finance and Corporate Services), Babajide Ibironke, emphasised the importance of the project to Nigeria’s electricity sector.

 

“This initiative is pivotal to improving electricity stability nationwide, and must be approached with a strong sense of national responsibility,” he stated.

 

The new National Control Room is expected to serve as a central hub for monitoring and managing electricity distribution, ultimately contributing to improved service delivery and energy security across Nigeria.
