The Transmission Company of Nigeria has announced the full restoration of the Alaoji–Owerri 132kV Transmission Lines 1 and 2, bringing an end to electricity supply disruptions that affected parts of Imo, Bayelsa and Rivers states.

The development was disclosed in a press statement issued by TCN and signed by Ndidi Mbah, General Manager, Public Affairs, on June 24, 2026.

According to the company, the two transmission lines were successfully energized at 7:05 p.m. and 7:06 p.m. on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, following the completion of emergency repair works on faults that caused the lines to trip a day earlier.

TCN explained that its maintenance team swiftly mobilized to the fault location after the outage occurred on Tuesday, June 23, and immediately commenced restoration efforts.

The company said repairs on Line 1 were completed first, allowing the line to be restored to service at about 7:25 p.m. on June 23, thereby enabling partial restoration of bulk electricity supply to Imo State, Bayelsa State and parts of Rivers State, including Yenagoa and Ahoada.

However, TCN noted that further work on Line 2 required the temporary shutdown of Line 1 to ensure the safety of maintenance personnel.

The company explained that because of the close proximity of the two high-voltage transmission lines, keeping one line energized during repairs on the other could result in electromagnetic induction, posing serious risks to engineers working on the faulted line.

“To facilitate the safe repair of Line 2, it became necessary to temporarily de-energize Line 1. This was because the close proximity of the two high-voltage transmission lines could induce electromagnetic induction on the faulty line when the adjacent line remained energized, thereby posing a safety risk to TCN’s maintenance engineers,” the statement said.

TCN disclosed that the temporary outage was approved by the Nigerian Independent System Operator and carried out with the concurrence of the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company and the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company.

According to the company, the precautionary measure created the safe working environment required to complete repairs and restore the second transmission line.

With the successful restoration of both lines, TCN confirmed that the Alaoji–Owerri transmission corridor is now fully operational and capable of transmitting full electricity load to distribution companies for onward supply to consumers.

“With the successful restoration of both transmission lines, the Alaoji–Owerri transmission corridor is now fully operational. EEDC and PHEDC can now offtake full load for onward distribution to their customers,” the company stated.

TCN expressed appreciation to electricity consumers affected by the outage for their patience and understanding during the repair period.

“The Company remains committed to maintaining a reliable and efficient transmission network for the evacuation and delivery of bulk electricity across the country,” the statement added.

The restoration is expected to improve power supply stability across the affected states and ease the burden on consumers who experienced service interruptions during the outage period.
