The All Progressives Congress (APC) has formally inaugurated its National Campaign Council for the June 20, 2026 Ekiti State off cycle governorship election, setting an ambitious target of delivering a resounding victory for Governor Biodun Oyebanji while showcasing the party’s nationwide strength and unity.
The inauguration ceremony, attended by top party leaders, governors, members of the National Assembly, and key stakeholders, underscored the APC’s determination to retain control of Ekiti State and consolidate support for the administration of Governor Oyebanji.
Stating the term of reference of the campaign council, the APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru disclosed that the National Campaign Council had been structured into 11 specialized subcommittees covering election planning, finance, grassroots mobilization, logistics, media, security, youth and women engagement, persons with disabilities, protocol, and administration.
According to Basiru, the council comprises some of the most experienced figures in progressive politics and has been carefully assembled to ensure electoral success.
“Every election matters to our party. We believe in deploying our best human resources, leadership capacity, and preparation to guarantee victory. We are confident this council will deliver success for our party in Ekiti State,” he said.
APC Chairman Expresses Confidence in Oyebanji
In his remarks, APC National Chairman, Prof Nentawe Yewetda praised Governor Oyebanji’s performance in office, describing him as one of the party’s finest governors.
He commended the governor’s achievements in infrastructure development, healthcare, education, social welfare, and community engagement, insisting that the APC candidate remained the overwhelming favourite in the election.
“You have built roads, provided scholarships, strengthened healthcare services, and connected communities across Ekiti State. We are proud of you and ready to present you to the people for a second term,” Ganduje stated.
The APC chairman also highlighted the party’s extensive political reach, noting that governors, legislators, women leaders, youth groups, and other stakeholders from across the country were united behind the Ekiti governor’s re-election bid.
Campaign Council Targets Massive Victory
Chairman of the National Campaign Council and Governor of Kaduna State, Senator Uba Sani, expressed gratitude to the APC leadership for the confidence reposed in him.
He recalled that Governor Oyebanji secured a convincing victory in the 2022 election and declared that the party was now aiming for an even larger margin.
“Our goal is ambitious but achievable. We want to significantly increase the votes recorded in the last election and secure a margin of victory that reflects the confidence of the people in the APC and Governor Oyebanji’s leadership,” he said.
Sani revealed that campaign structures had already been established across all 16 local government areas and 177 wards of the state to drive grassroots mobilization and voter engagement.
He described the election as a referendum on the reforms being implemented by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and a validation of the governor’s achievements in Ekiti.
Senate President Reaffirms Support for the Governor
Also speaking at the inauguration, Senate President Godswill Akpabio threw his weight behind Governor Oyebanji’s second-term bid, describing him as one of the most humble and inclusive leaders in Nigeria.
Akpabio commended the governor for maintaining cordial relationships with former governors of the state and fostering unity across political divides.
“It is rare to find a governor who enjoys the support and goodwill of all former governors of a state. Governor Oyebanji has demonstrated humility, inclusiveness, and commitment to the welfare of his people,” he said.
The Senate President assured the APC candidate of the support of the National Assembly and predicted a comfortable victory for the ruling party.
Oyebanji Promises Greater Service
Responding, Governor Biodun Oyebanji expressed appreciation to the APC leadership and members of the campaign council for their support and confidence in his administration.
The governor attributed many of his administration’s achievements to the support provided by President Tinubu and pledged to continue delivering on the promises made to the people of Ekiti.
“The challenge before us is not merely winning the election; it is expanding voter participation and ensuring that more people identify with the progress we have made. We remain committed to delivering good governance and improving the lives of our people,” Oyebanji said.
He assured members of the campaign council that his administration would provide all necessary support to ensure a successful campaign and victory at the polls.
The APC’s inauguration of the campaign council signals the official commencement of an intensive political campaign ahead of the Ekiti governorship election, with party leaders expressing confidence that Governor Oyebanji will secure a second term in office.
