Residents of several communities in Ado Local Government Area of Benue State are set to enjoy improved access to clean and safe drinking water as the Deputy Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Chief Mrs. Lami Danladi Ogenyi, has commenced the drilling of solar-powered motorized boreholes across the council area.
The water intervention project, which began in Akpoge/Ogbilolo Ward, is expected to provide sustainable water supply to thousands of residents in underserved communities and further enhance public health and living conditions in the area.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued by the Office of the Deputy Speaker and signed by Comrade Unazi Michael Ogenyi, Special Assistant on Community Relations to the Deputy Speaker, on June 11, 2026.
According to the statement, the borehole project will extend beyond Akpoge/Ogbilolo Ward to cover several other communities, including Apa-Ugbozu in Apa Ward, Rijo in Ufia, as well as Ijigban and Ekile communities.
Each of the boreholes is designed with a storage capacity of 50,000 litres and will be powered entirely by solar energy, ensuring a reliable and environmentally friendly source of potable water for residents.
The initiative forms part of Rt. Hon. Ogenyi’s broader community development agenda aimed at addressing critical social needs and improving the welfare of constituents across Ado Local Government Area.
The statement noted that the project underscores the Deputy Speaker’s commitment to delivering people-oriented programmes and infrastructure that directly impact the lives of rural communities.
“With each borehole having a 50,000-litre capacity and powered by solar energy, residents will have access to a reliable source of clean and safe drinking water,” the statement said.
It further emphasized that the intervention is one of several grassroots development projects being implemented by the Deputy Speaker to improve the quality of life of the people and promote sustainable community development.
Residents and community leaders in the benefiting areas are expected to benefit significantly from the project, which is anticipated to reduce the burden of water scarcity and improve sanitation and public health outcomes across the communities.
The commencement of the borehole drilling project has been welcomed as a major step towards addressing one of the most pressing needs of rural dwellers in Ado Local Government Area.
