Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, has congratulated the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Taiwo Oyedele, on his 51st birthday, describing him as an exceptional technocrat whose expertise and leadership have become invaluable assets to Nigeria’s economic transformation agenda.
The commendation was contained in a statement issued by the Office of the Speaker, House of Representatives, and signed by Musa Abdullahi Krishi, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Speaker, on June 18, 2026.
In the goodwill message, Speaker Abbas lauded Oyedele’s contributions to the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that the minister has distinguished himself as a brilliant economist, financial expert, and public servant committed to national development.
The Speaker particularly highlighted Oyedele’s performance as Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, applauding his role in driving critical tax reforms and engaging stakeholders across the country.
“His sterling leadership as Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms and his remarkable ability to explain the administration’s tax reforms and convince stakeholders are worthy of applause,” Abbas stated.
According to the Speaker, Oyedele’s expertise and professionalism have added significant value not only to the Tinubu administration but also to the Nigerian economy as a whole.
He also commended President Tinubu for identifying and bringing competent Nigerians into government service, describing Oyedele as one of the administration’s most impactful appointments.
“Mr. Taiwo Oyedele is a wonderful human being, a brilliant technocrat, economist and financial expert who has come to serve Nigeria and add value to the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” Abbas said.
The Speaker noted that Oyedele’s transition from leading the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms to serving as Minister of Finance reflects the confidence reposed in his ability to drive economic growth and fiscal stability.
After successfully leading the tax reform committee, Oyedele was nominated by President Tinubu as Minister of State for Finance and was confirmed by the Senate on March 12, 2026, before being sworn into office on March 16, 2026. He was subsequently appointed Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy on April 21, 2026.
Abbas expressed optimism that the minister would continue to provide the leadership needed to reposition the nation’s economy and improve the welfare of Nigerians.
While offering prayers for the celebrant, the Speaker wished him continued good health, strength, wisdom, and success in the discharge of his national responsibilities.
“I pray that God grants him sound health, strength, wisdom and the grace to succeed in his national assignment of driving Nigeria’s economy to greater prosperity,” the Speaker added.
The House Speaker’s tribute adds to the growing list of goodwill messages from political leaders, policymakers and stakeholders who have acknowledged Oyedele’s contributions to fiscal reforms and economic governance in Nigeria.
