DAILY HOPE DEVOTIONAL: JUNE 28 CHARACTER OF JOB WHICH IGOD LOVED (2) SCRIPTURE: JOB 27: 3, 5
One other quality God told Satan that Job had was his ability to shun evil. This points at Job’s moral and spiritual integrity. Job’s posture to live righteously and blamelessly made him adopted a lifestyle of hating and avoiding anything evil. The word integrity has many angles in attempting to define it. Integrity is the key to everything about human’s moral and righteous living. Job’s words match his outward behaviour. This is what integrity means. The profound statement Job made that showed his respect for integrity is in Job 27: 5 – 6. He says: “Far be it from me that I should say you are right; till I die I will not put away my integrity from me. My righteousness I hold fast, and will not let it go; my heart shall not reproach me as long as I live” (NKJV). Another word from Job putting on the pedestals of integrity is this: “I have made a covenant with my eyes: why should I look upon a young woman” (Job 31: 1 NKJ).
This kind of character of Job is lacking in the world of today. It is not easy to see somebody willing to maintain his integrity in the world where everyone is compromising their integrity with ease. People of integrity could be trusted to do what they said they would do. It is worthy of note that Job, by integrity, served God out of choice not because he was forced by God.He was steadfast in his confidence in God despite his horrible conditions inflicted upon him. It takes integrity to follow God in any condition. A person of integrity sticks to anyone he/she loves in any condition. The Bible said of Job: “In all these Job did not sin nor charge God wrongly” (Job 1: 22). Note that “In all these” here referred to the sudden disasters that fell on Job and his children.
Take it or leave it, committing sin of adultery or fornication remains moral evil that a person of integrity tries to run away from it. Naturally, it proves a sign of moral decay and indecency to have sex in the open. Job, through regards to maintaining his decency, vowed to keep away from immoral life. He refused to be enticed by women around him. As read in the previous devotional, Job said: – “If my heart has been enticed toward a woman, and I have lain in wait at my neighbour’s door, then let my wife grind for another, and let others bow down on her…” (Job 31: 9). The phrase; “grinding for another” could means, “to rotate one’s pelvis erotically”. This statement combines vow and placement of a curse upon himself if he should be enticed into committing adultery with any woman. No human being will commit self to clean life style such as Job that God would not be happy with. The beloved, the question here is: What is your take on integrity in this present world system?
PRAYER:
FATHER, I have seen why you are this proud of Job with trust and delight. He commanded an incredible personality. I plead that you equip me with the kind of personality of Job today in the name of Jesus Christ.
