IGP Disu Seeks Stronger Police–Judiciary Partnership to Fast-Track Criminal Justice Reforms

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with the Judiciary to improve criminal justice administration, enhance prosecution, and promote the rule of law across the country.
This was contained in a press release issued by the Nigeria Police Force and signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Anietie Okokon Edem Iniedu, ANIPR, following the Inspector-General’s courtesy visit to the Chief Justice of Nigeria on Thursday, July 2, 2026.
During the visit to the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Olatokunbo Kekere-Ekun, the Inspector-General described the Police and the Judiciary as indispensable partners in the nation’s criminal justice system, stressing that deeper institutional cooperation remains critical to achieving effective justice delivery.
IGP Disu commended the leadership of the Judiciary for its commitment to judicial integrity, constitutional governance and the administration of justice, while emphasizing the need for sustained collaboration to improve the quality of police investigations, strengthen prosecution support and ensure timely dispensation of justice.
“The Police and the Judiciary remain indispensable partners in the criminal justice system, and sustained collaboration is essential to improving the quality of investigations, strengthening prosecution support, and promoting the timely dispensation of justice,” the Inspector-General stated.
The police chief also highlighted the importance of effective implementation of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) and corresponding state laws, noting that strict adherence to the legislation would help enhance efficiency and significantly reduce delays in criminal proceedings nationwide.
IGP Disu further disclosed that the Nigeria Police Force is making significant investments in forensic science, intelligence-led policing, digital investigation capabilities and other modern policing initiatives aimed at improving investigative standards and supporting justice delivery.
He added that stronger collaboration with the Judiciary in the areas of technology adoption and capacity-building programmes would further enhance the effectiveness of Nigeria’s criminal justice system.
“Closer collaboration with the Judiciary in the use of technology and capacity-building programmes will further strengthen criminal justice delivery,” he said.
The Inspector-General reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to working closely with the Judiciary and other key stakeholders to strengthen the rule of law, improve public confidence in the administration of justice and build a safer, more secure and just society.
